it's not that hard. take one engine out, make minor modifications drop new one in

amputating arm is irreversible....

i figure if you are going to fork out $300-400 on an 09IM you might as well get more out of it and just using the type s engine. they are so cheap now days

yeah, sometimes if you are lucky you can get the wiring harness with the engine. i've heard of people using the TL-p harness on a TL-s engine, but i wanted to be safe and i'm using a type s harness.

you don't NEED a type s ecu either, but the type s ecu will let you take advantage of the higher redline and higher vtec engagement. i've got a type s ecu in my car right now (the a/c works with this ecu) with the tl-p engine and i have to be careful not to over rev my car.

it would be wise to go ahead and do any maintenance to the engine (timing belt, rear main seal, valve adjustment, throttle body/intake manifold cleaning) while the engine is out of the car makes it that much easier.

im thinking the harness wouldnt be a problem since there both 3.2 i did a swap on my silverado from a 4.8 to a 6.0 and i had to change the harness they were very diffrent but yea im thinking about swapping to a type s and just buying a ecu while im at it!

i dunno, the type s has IMRC (you won't be using anyway) and a different throttle body, so i'm not sure if the connectors on the TB are any different.

Why wouldnt you want to use it? I would take the time to wire it up!

There should be NO reason this wont work on the TL-P (other than the 99), the lower runners will let the manifold bolt up to it just fine. I would just get the Type-s TB while you are at it.

I dont know why you couldnt use it. Its there for a reason. If it was better wide open then they would have designed it with out it and wide open. Get a RPM switch and get it to open and close. You should gain low end.

Is there a consensus on if this would work on the TL-P. If it would I'm 80% sure I will be doing this mod within this year.

As posted above, yes it will work on it. (as long as you bought all the necessary parts listed above)

opps didn't see this.... at first the transmission shifted pretty harsh. i think it had to learn things? it's gotten better. the TCS light is on haha obviously because the types has VSA and not TCS. i'm just watching the RPMs to make sure i don't redline it because the type s has a higher rev limit/redline.

i'm only doing this because i get a/c through the type s ecu. the engine/tranny/turbo swap is next weekend.

why weren't you getting A/C with the tl-p ecu? did yours break and just figure since you were going to be getting the engine swap anyways?

the ecu wasn't grounding the a/c clutch, and if i wired the clutch directly to the battery it would work. so yeah, i'll only be running 4-5 more days on this tl-p engine, thursday starts the swap, probably wont' drive it for a while, gotta afford a tune haha. haltechs aren't cheap.

Awesome. Considering the relative 'cheapness' of the Type-S motor I think I'm going to take a look around and see if I can find one for a good price, drop that in and do this mod when I need more powerrrrr. For those who have done it, approx how much did the type-s swap run you, in total? (approx)

i don't think bad mounts would really hurt your numbers that much for a dyno, for track runs yes, dyno not so much.
