Lightbulb **Pics of Homemade Intake and sound clip**

well yesterday i was planning on buying a K&N drop in filter at pep boys which would have cost me near $50 bucks so my boy calls me and he decides instead of payin that much just for a replacement filter...we should just make our own cold air intake temporarily until i am able to get an aftermarket intake.....so i said lets do it then.....we used left over intercooler piping that we had laying around from his turbo project so we decided to go with that and i just picked up a cone from pep boys for $27 bucks to see how things would go.....well everything is good the only thing i have to work on is ceramic coating the intake so that it will stay cold......the sound is great it sounds just like any aftermarket intake it might not be as loud but it dam sure made a difference over having the intake resinator removed.......so all together it ran me 27 bucks to make my own cold air intake well at least for now until i get it ceramic coated

i know you all are gonna ask for a sound clip so i took a small one for now until the weekend ill get a better one but here are the pics and the sound clip

BTW: I know the engine bay is dirty...someone wanna clean it for me?? lol

Sound CLip: http://www.acurainspired.com/gallery...1938&pid=42932

Here are the pics:

You might not need an aftermarket CAI, this one looks good.

i would not worry about the bypass unless you really drive through a lake or pond often you should never have it in that much water. if you ever get that deep the hydrolock is not the only thing you would need to worry about

the ceramic coating would insulate it more so that the heat doens't get "into" the intake keeping the air cooler.

The intake looks real good, I wouldn't spend the money on aftermarket one either. You just saved yourself a lot of money. Nice work

i dont know i may just ceramic coat the inside because i love the polished look unless i ceramic coat the outside as well and just paint the intake to match the car??

looks good, sounds nice. you dont really need to get it ceramic coated. that area doesnt get that hot anyways. all the heat is blocked off with the battery, plus there's no real engine parts going to that side anyways. just know that youre getting a better airflow to your car and ceramic coating it will just waste your money, plus it wont give you a much greater gain in power at all.

cant wait to see it at the meet

hmmm but today after about an hour of driving i arrived home and when i opened the hood and touched the intake it was pretty hot.....is that how the aftermarket intakes are as well??....or is it because im using intercooler piping

BTW: aaronn check your PM box i sent u a PM like 2 days ago

I don't think the intake is supposed to get that hot to the touch. It's probably absorbing the heat from your engine. Possibly wrap the intake piping? Does the filter stick out of the bottom of the car too? Anyways nice DIY.

Gotta love tie wraps. Don't know how I'd survive without duct tape, tie wraps and WD40.

I'll take a few shots of my custom intake once it comes back from the powdercoater.

I think the CAIs sound better when you are driving anyway...and it's kinda hard to get a good sound clip while you are driving.

No, but mine is made of mandrel bent aluminized tubing. Same stuff they make exhaust systems out of. Here's some pics of it raw and out of the car. (Sorry to hijack your thread). I'm currently using hose clamps where the duct tape was.
