Winter-Blend Fuel Additive/Gas Treatment

Anyone know of a good additive for fuel that will improve mileage with the winter blends? I know that colder air is more dense and therefore contains more oxygen which the ECU compenstes for by injecting more fuel, but are there any additives/gas treatments that are actually worth the money?

The reason I ask is that I lose about 75-100 miles/tank in the winter months and I'm getting ready to embark on a 1200 mile roadtrip this week.....

BG44K, Gumout Regane and Amsoil PI work well. I usually use either BG44K opr Gumout as they are both a little better than Amsoil PI IMO. They will make your car run smoother, giving you better acceleration and gas mileage.

only use one, not both, that would be overkill. gumout regane is OTC of course, but BG44K has to be purchased online or from an authorized dealer and is expensive at about $13-15 per can. gumout is 6-7 bucks.

Good info...I was going to try them both at different times, i.e. one on the way there and the other on the way back, but I'll have to settle for the Gumout since the other has to be ordered. Thanx again

The only problem is there really isnt much you can do about the winter additive and outside temp. Some of major additives are Ethanol which our cars dont like. Plus there isnt much you can do for the way the fuel gets burned in cold air.
The fuel treatments are great if your car is normally suffering, but most likely wont do a thing for your mileage because of the winter additives and temp

I like Techron for keeping the engine clean, but no additive will produce miracles with mileage. There just isn't enough energy in ethanol. With respect to mileage the only additive is adding more gas in the tank.

Well, I guess we're all just f***ed for the next couple of months...luckily half of my trip will be below the Mason-Dixon where the temp is around 70-75 degrees, and I dont think they use the winter blends down there. At least I don't recall ever having fluctuating mileage during the winter months when I was living there....Anyone in NC that can confirm?

I've tracked mpg for over 2 years (3 winters) and there was no appreciable difference in gas mileage during winter. In Winter 2005, I got better gas mileage than in Summer2005. If you aren't tracking mpg and only track the occasional 'miles per tank' (meaningless number) you're probably not getting worse mpg, certainly nothing worth looking into.
