What INTAKE do you have? Why do you like it?

There are a plethora of stray threads and questions about INTAKE setups for our TL's on AZ.com. I'd like to bring them all together and know why you sport those pipes that you do.

Do you dig the loud vaccuum hum of the SHORT RAM and COLD AIR?

Or do you insist on the silent but deadly COMPTECH ICEBOX?

ALSO..... Do we notice that the Type-S has a different intake sound than the TL-P?

And.... Have you noticed any HP or TORQUE gains. Or is it just your imagination....

Ok..
1. I love the vacuum hum when the car is idling and I turn it off and it goes pssst.. I got an AEM CAi by the way
2. I rather have the Icebox because at WOT the AEM is way too loud and throaty
3. No idea
4. I notice a bit more torque especially with VSA off as far as HP gain very minimal, I think in regards to HP its more mental. I always swear I'm gonna smoke my boys 3G just because I got an intake

Aight, let me explain this to you. I have the INJEN CAI in my 99TL. I LOVE IT. I think it sounds great. Very masuline sound. No matter what brand of intake you get, there all gona do the same shit. Except for the Comptech Ice Box which is supposed to give you better gains then all other intakes. I suggest you go with Cold Air no matter what. Short Ram sucks. I can't say that it would be better or worse then Cold Air, but do you want some weak ass short looking pipe in your engine bay or do you want a bad ass long pipe that goes behind the bumper and is gona give you better performance if anything. Now i can't say that the Type S Intake has a diff sound then then the reg 3.2L engine but id imagine there relatively the same with maybe a tiny bit difference because the typse-s if a toatally diff engine and its gota sound diff then the reg engines intake. If anything its a slightly diff sound but not by too much maybe. I deff have noticed maybe a 3hp diff , not sure about torque but its hard to say because an intake only does so much. You'll notice your TL feels alot more responsive with the intake then before so for sure you'll feel a diff. Good luck.

I like the Icebox because it's quite and easy remove the filter to clean. With header and exhaust combination, I don't want too much loudness if CAI or short ram installed. There is definitely noticed gain in HP. With I/H/E, I can be able to pull 230 hp and 192 torque. If you only have intake, then CAI might be a better choice.

Are you drunk homie?

Jusssss kidding.. The Type-S should sound different because it has a mass airflow sensor before the throttle body. The TL-P does not.

Also... I agree with yins about the torque gain. Horsepower gains do not stand out on our TL's but the torque gain is definate.

Look, plain and simple, just stop debatting and choose a damn intake. If you want more power and less sound, get the comptech. If not, go AEM or INJEN. Its that simple. Good Luck.

I'm not debating. I have the Comptech Icebox. I love it. It's the best intake I've had. I also liked the Injen CAI on my Type-S and my Civic, for other reasons.

I'm not asking for advice. I only want to hear everybodys opinions. WORD?

I have an AEM CAI in my car.. definitely love it and there are gains to it.. saves me a shitload of gas too on long trips. a 3 1/2 hr drive @ 80 mph the entire way only costs be between $7-$10. AND it's nice and loud on WOT. People turn heads when they hear and see me coming down the street

Eh? There's no mass airflow sensor on a Type S.

There is - however a MAP (manifold absolute preassure) sensor ON the valve body.

BTW - I have an Icebox with a K&N filter. Very good combo!

That is a piece of crap! Trust me you don't want to put that thing on your car. Here is the thread I posted a few months ago about this intake...

I have an Injen CAI. It's a much better choice than the Secret Weapon R!

I've got an Injen right now and like that one better than the AEM CAI I had. Better fitment and looks a little better IMO. I've been contemplating the Icebox, but I kind of like the sound at WOT that a CAI has. Right now I dyno 240 whp and 200 ft/lbs TQ. I'd like to increase the TQ a little so that's why I've been contemplating the Icebox, but I am not sure it would help out a lot.

Comptech ice box. Stock looking, easy to replace or add a k&n filter, claims the most gains, silent when it needs to be, still provides that nice hiss when shutting off the car. Basicly got it for its rep, reported gains. Really didn't car about the sound cause unless i'm at wot i'm not going to hear ti with my stereo on. And it sounds very nice at wot.

The AEM V2 is amazing. The only problem I have with it is if you're real light on the gas it creates a real high pitch almost dog whistle type squeal, but I can deal. Just crank up the radio Other than that you can really feel the difference. It is awesome!

My friend told me he could take an Accord intake and custom fit it to my car for 140, but I thought that was steep and I just went with the V2 I've got now. It was more expexsive but reputable, and awesome surprising is NO ONE has approached me at a light and tried to start anything. Not on the highway either. Not enough Richmonders are big into the race scene in Midlothian anyway..

I like my AEM CAI because it looks the best, and I can notice it sometimes even over my exhaust. And nothing beats that wooshy noise. NOTHING

My Civic will walk all over my Type-S. Until 80mph comes along. Then it's all about 3.2 liters of fury!!

And my Fit... Well. It doesn't really like to play.

You get what you pay for. Poor fit, poor quality, cheap air filters, little or no warranty...

Most peopl say "A tube is a tube, no difference." If your short on money, go for it, just strap on a K&N Filter. The reason you pay high prices for those expensive intakes is because of the name it carrys, which guarantee's you that their product won't fail on you. Honestly, I hate those ebay intakes. I had one on my accord, paid 30 bucks for it, and it fit my car perfectly fine, but throughout the months I noticed how the metal began to scratch real easy after moving around in the engine bay, water spots dried into it and I couldn't get them out, and I noticed how inside of the intake the metal wasn't 100% smooth. You get what you pay for. I didn't go the same route this time with my TL, I got a AEM V2 intake, yes its $250, but its pure quality.

I have an AEM CAI on an 02TLS. I like the sound and the only time I can hear it over my CT H/E is when I turn the car off.

Despite the love affair, I think I'm going to replace it with a CT Icebox. The mounting bracket for the AEM broke in a very minor accident and even my bypass is starting to show age. Plus the stock look of the Icebox will make it easier to sell if I decide to move on to diesel.

So I just got my AEM V2 put on, and I gotta tell you I love it.

I read alot of posts about alot of noise from it, but really its quiet while idling (in the cabin, you can hear it when you put your head near the filter) and driving normally. Its sweet as hell once you go WOT and it just makes the most pleasant sound, a little louder than when I had my stock intake without the resonator and more defined. The AEM Dry Flow filter looks pretty impressive too, and I dont really hear any whistling sound, only at maybe 3k-4k when it shifts, but thats when im really on the gas pedal. Overall, this intake is great. While installing it I kept telling myself I shoulda got the comptech icebox, but now that I drove around with it, i'm in love. Not too loud, not too quiet.. just right.
