Torn Between exhaust setup!?

Ok guys, heres my dilemma. I've spent plenty of time searching around on the forum about exhaust, catbacks, and so on. I've noticed that some people say that putting a catback setup on a Type S is useless, only for sound. If this is true then can i actually just remove the bigger midmuffler located closer to the rear, replace with a straight weld in pipe, and then order 2 aftermarket mufflers and have them custom welded to the stock piping and fit with hangers? I would be getting something that looks aftermarket/aggressive but nothing that would make it look trashy/ruining the classy look. I want the deep aggressive tone.

Second option, I've also read that removing both the first resonator in the middle of the exhaust and the second mid muffler closer to the rear creates a buzzing type resonance to the exhaust at a certain rpm. Is this true for the type S owners that have attempted this? If not then i'm considering just removing both resonators and getting the 3A tips for a mellow milder sound for the time being.

Thanks for your help fellas!
Chris

i did it to mine there is no buzzing or rattling or any funky noises. you just get a slightly louder sound. it not a big difference in sound but you can here it. you wont here it on the freeway or anything like that. only low RPM and while accelerating.
do it you will love it.

yes. a lot of people have done that. magnaflow mufflers are a good muffler that's cheap and looks great. search the forum for "magnaflow" and u will get a lot of threads to read up on.

you can just remove the larger resonator that's closer to the muffler and it will give it a louder more deeper tone.

This is what i want to do also, with the magnaflows. I don't remember the part number by memory, but if u search you'll find it.

if you are going to remove your resonators do both. just doing one wont change the sound that much. even doing both keeps in toned down.

Ok so let me clarify this. I have a 02 Type S that comes stock with 2.25" piping. I am going to the exhaust shop tomorrow and i need to tell him to take out the pre muffler closer to the mufflers in the back and also take out the resonator closer to the cat? I am not doing any muffler swapping, but am simply just taking these out for a little more sound gain. I will not have any buzzing or rasping noises coming out since i am removing both resonator and pre muffler correct? I read around on here somewhere that someone with a 99tl removed both and they got that buzzing raspy sound but i'm guessing there is a difference in the piping size that plays with the sounds b/t the type s and the tlp.
Thanks, let me know asap!

there are 2 resonators inbetween the cat and the mufflers. remove both the small cylider shaped one and the mini muffler looking one.
you "shouldnt" get any odd sounds. the people that do have leaks in there exhaust or loose hanger or what ever. but removing that wont make any noises.
if there are noises the resonators were not why.

you will love it. i did it and now i want it alittle louder. open up the exhaust alittle more.

Well, i got the exhaust taken care of. I had the shop take out both the premuffler and the resonator. I think the sound is good, but not great. I'm satisfied with it right now b/c it gives me that deep mellow tone inside but nothing obnoxious and the from the outside it also sounds pretty decent. The sound is perfect b/t 1800-3200 rpms when accelerating and revving. Eventually i will be putting some aftermarket mufflers of some sort in but for now this gives the car a nice aftermarket tone for cheap. Had it done for 30 bucks at a local shop. Couldn't pass it up. Plus they went ahead and changed my oil for me since i brought in the oil and filter and they already had it on the lift. All said n done i'm glad i did this mod and when i got home i went ahead and took out the intake resonator which took a little more effort and time than i had thought it would have. The type s resonator is a Bitch to get out!
