Took out my resonator!!

Im very happy with the results. It has a little more spunk, and sounds almost like a REAL CAI!!
I recommend this mod to anyone that is on a budget, or just wants to play with their car a little.
Next is to get a K&N filter to optimize the new set up.

FYI...It has a noticable sound difference, but not obnoxiously loud like some. If you like the suttle sound this is for you!

when i bought my TL it allready had a CAI in it but i remember when i had my taurus SHO i took the resonator out and it made a huge difference. it's amazing how a little piece of plastic can change things. my cousin has an '04 mustang Mach1. we took the resonator out of the shaker hood 3 weeks ago. it roars like a 454 now. awesome stuff.

will removing a resonator shorten the life of your engine?

no - it is just like a muffler for your air intake, thats it

get a K&N filter and remove second resonator on intake hose and replace with a piece of pvc or rubber similiar to intake hose and clamp it on. Then you have a home CAI basically.

I would get an aftermarket intake, only an icebox though. I don't like air filter that close to the road. soggy air filters mean less airflow and sooner they need to be replaced. My intake does sound like a real CAI, I don't think an aftermarket intake would yield me much HP at all, maybe 1-3whp more.

I used to have that but that annoying hum noise drove me crazy - that is why I put that 2nd little resonator back on, plenty of sound for me like it is now

I was thinking of just removing the resonator, but after doing a search, it seem that i won't get any add hp from that. So i'll be going with a comptech soon. Would have been great if i could get some nice hp gain from just removing the resonator though, save some $$$$

everyone who has done this (including myself) says the car feels a little faster. I know when I went from my current setup to the AEM V2 intake - I could again tell the power increase, and I can tell I lost some when I went back to the way I have it now. I loved the V2 intake, but the hum noise it had drove me crazy after a few months.

so I would say you get some HP w/o that big ass intake resonator (only makes sense), but a real intake will give you some more power
