Tinting questions

Hey guys im getting my windows tinted this weekend and im really excited. I was a little unsure about what percentage i wanted. I have a black 03 tl type s with a black interior, but i want the windows to be BLACK. Its not as important to me to see out but i just dont want people to see in the windows. Like when somones driving behind me i dont want them to be able to see the silhouette of the driver or the seats. Any suggestions?

Sounds like you already know what you want. Just get the darkest tint available at the place. Like 15% or lower.

Or just spray paint your windows black......just kidding dont do that.

what he said ^, I have 20% and its pretty dark so anything lower would be pretty black. Keep in mind if its too black, it makes it a bit harder to switch lanes at night.

15% or lower on sides and rear, and 35% full windshield will do it. Thats what mine is.

Do you ever get any shit for the windshield tint? I heard that if your in a accident and you have windshield tint the insurance company can deny your claim...

I dont know how much truth there is in that....

I dont drive the TL every day, but when I did, I didnt get too much shit for it. Only in certain cities. I love it tho, I had the windsheild done 35% on my last car too.

^Agree. I have 35% on my front windows and I think that's pretty dark. 20% in the back. Looks really nice IMO. I have NBP too.

Its pointless to PAY to have 50% put on IMO...not much of a diff at all. Yes I've had tickets, its a non-moving violation. Also depends how they are in y our area with tint.

Ugh. FHP is the worst man...Im up in Boca, a relatively nice area as you know...The cops here don't have to put up with crime, violence, etc....All they do is run radar on every fuckin street. Believe it or not, last week I saw the same motorcycle cop giving tickets in 3 different locations within about 1.5 - 2 hours.

o i was under the impression that the higher tint you go 25%... 35%.. ect. the less light it let it, the more dark it becomes. But its really the opposite of that?

That makes sense. Make sure you get the windshield tinted too. Oh and the sunroof.

Get 5% and let us know when you get pulled over (which will probably be right as you're pull out of the tint shop).

On a serious note, I have 20% on the rear window and side rear windows and you can absolutely see the driver. Well maybe not as good at night.

OP... it sounds like you want something dark. i'd say to tint at whatever the darkest your state laws permit.

it hinders visibility. Sure if you live in a big city with lots of street lights its much less apparent but you still have a loss.

3.Sunscreening devices, when measured in combination with the original glass, must have a light transmittance value of 25% or more.

this is Texas Law
I hide my front licence plate behind that required strip at the top of my windshield

Not to start an argument, but have you ever driven a car with a tinted windshield? I've owned 2 of them, and driven countless others. I think you would be suprised.

Yes i have. I used to be young and did stuff like that (my civic si had a tinted windshield with 35%). Besides getting hassled by the cops on a weekly basis there was a reduction in visibility. And no i dont need glasses. I have perfect vision.
So what you are saying is if you stare out your side window thats tinted and look off to the distance then roll the window down you can see every thing as clearly with the window up as down I think not.

Of course not, but not nearly enough to impair a driver and cause an accident.

But I have a feeling we have very different views on the matter, so there is no since in going back and forth. I will not deny I dont get tickets for it, because I do. The car is not daily driven anymore, so it doesnt bother me. Im sure for someone who drives it every day, all year, the tickets would become annoying and costly.

Different strokes for different folks

I live in illinois and the law is you can get 35% all around, BUT ABSOLUTELY NO FRONT WINDSHIELD TINTS!!!

meh, oh well. 35% is still better than 100% in my opinion :-/
