Suspension modification.

So i finally decided to break down and spend the money on the 08 TL Type-S SHOCK ABSORBER MOUNTING RUBBER pieces (part # 51631-SEP-A01) You will need 8 of them The front and rear use the same pieces.

The are harder rubber with the metal washer molded to them as opposed to our softer rubber with separate metal washers and metal sleeve. With the stock shocks or similar replacement nothing needs to be done, with the Koni shocks the hole needs to be drilled out slightly (i used a 15/32 drill bit)

So far initial impressions are great. Much better feel with them over the stock pieces. You can order them from Heeltoe or the dealer. It will run you about 100-120$ depending on the dealer but i think its worth it.

Here is a side by side of the new one once drilled

This is a side by side of Stock vs the 3rd Gen Type-S They look much different but fit great

This is the reasoning for me replacing them. They started to self destruct and was causing suspension noises.

For those of you that are doing suspension work, DONT try to undo the swaybar end link (many break or have issues) Simply unbolt the bracket from the spindle and swing the whole thing out of the way allowing you to get the shock out of the way

Forgive my ignorance for a moment but can you explain what part this is exactly? What am I looking at in the engine bay pic?

Actually the pic is the rear one but yes, #7 is what the new ones replace (they actually replace 1,7,3,7,2)

Id recommend these for any one. They make the car quicker to respond

Sweet! I like the improved feel of them. It is a little stiffer and the turn in is quicker. (even with snow tires)

just to let you know fstty, that is installed wrong , the bushing should be the other way around, so when the nut is tightened it preloads it, so that it does not move around then (take a very close look at that parts diagram btw)

so the reason for the premature failure/chaffing
and if both were like that (top and bottom), it will really move arond then

i actually had one installed backwards on mine (on one side), idk why it got like that though, but anyways i flipped it back and you can actually feel it be stiffer, especially over a speed bump at work where the fronts shocks actually seemed weak, but not now though , very minor detial, but huge effect though

Actually it was installed right, they completely deformed and molded in the way you see them. (they were bought from napa) They were cheap and i think That is the reason they did that. The pic above is actually upside down and used to look like that the other way. All 8 of them did that. (i learned my lesson years back on my civic by putting them in upside down)

that explains alot though, but still looks to have been installed upside down though

and instead of trying to make different ones work, why just not use your original ones, if you still got them

Because these new ones are MUCH better. They are a hard rubber with the washer built in. Nothing else is needed with the install of these. They dont need the metal sleeve, or the other washers. The car has a feel to it it has never had (even when the others were first installed)

I didnt take a pic from further away. Pop your hood. Look where the strut comes thru the opening, look at the center washer/nut. This is where that rubber piece is.

[So far initial impressions are great. Much better feel with them over the stock pieces. You can order them from Heeltoe or the dealer. It will run you about 100-120$ depending on the dealer but i think its worth it.]

100-120 for each or for the whole set ?

For the whole set of 8. 2 per shock. Very nice improvement over stock, but I also upgraded to Koni SP3's so.......

fsttyms1,

I ordered 4 of the 51631-SEP-A01 FR. SHOCK ABSORBER MOUNTING RUBBER and plan on using them to replace the worn old stock rubber when I install my new Tokico blues.

The link below is the parts diagram for the CL:
http://www.acuraoemparts.com/delray/...All&vinsrch=no

Question: On either side of the front fork mounting base #8, I am assuming that the washer side of the 51631-SEP-A01 faces up for the one on the bottom and faces down for the one on the top when installed??

Can you clarify at your earliest convenience.

Thanks!

the rubber pieces go like pictured. They will appear to fit the other way but that is incorrect.

Forgive me for resurrecting an old thread, but does the 3rd gen bushing also replace #6 on the front? So it replaces 3, 4, 13, 4, 6?
