Stainless Steel brake lines

I'm trying to find a good brand of SS brake lines to put on my car. Search isn't turning up much and google isn't helping much either.. any suggestions?

does it just get rid of that nasty pushy pedals or does the car actually brake better stomp vs stomp?

i think it just feels like its stopping better. To get actually better stoping force you would have to go with stronger or more calipers, and better pads. I dont think the lines have anything to do with it.

the differance is that rubber flexes and expands when under pressure- losing effective braking pressure especially when hot
You can see the movement just pumping the pedal to bleed the brakes!
Switch to SS lines and the line has a smaller core- stands up to pressure,
Wont increase braking but can reduce distance with the full pressure
Work best with quality rotors and pads- you can also upgrade calipers on gen2 TL
with those from a 95 Legend LS-C, dual piston for the same price as TL calipers- $75 each
Those will reduce your stopping distance

With the ABS -hydraulic brake system, about the best thing to start with is `flushing the brake fluid` a complete push thru of old fluid till new fluid comes out the bleeders.
Mushiness comes from moisture in the brake fluid
Needs to be flushed once a year to keep it working at best level
USe synthetic brake fluid if you went to SS lines- higher temp resistance you will want~

Technafit makes a great setup. We have them for $110 shipped to the cont US and all lines are good in stock.

As Tom said, the stock rubber lines expand after repeated braking b/c the fluid gets hot. So when you upgrade your lines to stainless steel lines there is no expansion and therefore the pedal remains firm. Also upgrade your fluid to MOTUL DOT 5.1 since it has a higher boiling point and your brake fluid wicks water and you should change it ever 30k.

you can get some super cheapies online BUT- beware of those and how they are made and long they will last-
brakes are the most important part of the car IMO-
otherwise its just a formerly badazz car parked dead center into a tree or retaining wall!

Our vendors only sell the good stuff- goodrich technicraft or RB or similar
I went with some ebay units that are well made- as far as I can tell
Have seen pics of RB lines and they are very well made- Excelerate has good stuff too

for those new to brake repairs- see hygroscopic- brake fluid rips moisture from the air and gets inside the fluid- moisture vapor compresses- fluid does not, so bubbles get moved down to the caliper and form rust particles- mushy pedal and damage to oring

With the Motul 5 point ONE, 5.1, you could go longer on changes as Josh says
I am on a different brand dot4 synthetic and change every year- as the owner book says. Its a 20 minute DIY after the first time of 45 minutes to do a fluid flush.

It wasnt ever done when I got the 01, and some expensive system overhaul ensued

You can open the hood and have a friend push the brake pedal a few times with engine off- as if you were bleeding/flushing the brakes
pump 3-5 times and hold pedal as if on a hill.
Watch the brake hoses where they go from metal to rubber below the Master Cylinder
flexflexflex expand is what you will observe
Also note how the firewall metal flexes!!!
That will send you online to your preferred supplier in a hurry

Any cars with over 6-7 years on the rubber lines are on the life limits anyway, may as well upgrade-just like the front calipers- when needed, there are way better options for the same price
Note: in the owner book where it says check rubber hoses and replace as needed...thats brake lines too, but rare is the tech who does what the book says
How many people replace hoses until one blows??
Dont forget the radiator hoses with the 105k service~

beware... got mine from the ebay and had them installed. while doing the bleeding process.. two of them (rear) were gushing out brake fluid.. while my friend pressed on brake pedal.. so had the two rear stock ones put back..

fronts WERE okay.. until about 500 miles of driving, braking and such.. they were leaking.

had brake fluid get on my LE37 which kinda caused them to lose paint on the face and so i sold the LE37 and trashed those retarded fakeless steel lines.. lol.

ordered new set from heeltoeauto and wow.. they were so well made. once installed.. it was nice not having to refill brake fluid every once in awhile...

DO NOT use brake fluid that has been opened and sitting for more than 6 months
It absorbs moisture from the air- thats why the foil seal on the bottle!
Any brake fluid left in open bottle should be considered trash.
The hi quality stuff will be ok a bit longer, but still not a good plan to use open bottles unless you know the date of them

Brake fluid at parts store plain 3 bucks-synthetic 6, motul 15 iirc
How much is good or superior fluid worth to you?

How hard is the install on these? I have been considering doing them.

And I want the RacingBrake rotors, but I want the same rotors front AND rear...

not hard at all, unscrew the old brake line and screw in the new one. then preform the brake flush or bleeding procedure.

Does anyone have the actual spec size and fittings needed ? A performance shop in town makes them on the spot, but needs to dimensions etc. I have searched high and low but keep striking out. I wanted to do it without removing the lines first. Obviously i could remove them and then go there with it, but that would eat up a bunch of time.

thanks
TF

actually it does, with the rubber in the line going from the chassy to the wheel when you apply pressure some of that force goes to expanding the rubber line, when you go to a better line, the expandtion of the line is less and that transfers more of the force of the fluid to the piston, so yes it does improve the performance slightly.

Especially if you are driving them hard. The hotter your pads and rotors get the more pressure is needed to slow the car down. The more pressure the more expansion the rubber can do. Also as the car ages the rubber isnt as good as it was new.

you can see the rubber swell even when cold- have buddy pump brake pedal a few times-- as if prepping to bleed system,,

and you will likely invest the 100-125 bucks in a full set of SS!!

whats the local shop want $$ wise?

excelerate and mrheeltoe carry good brands
