Racing from a dig

Is it me, or does anyone feel like your faster when you start manually in first, then slide to second then up to d3 when going from a dig? for some reason i get better jumps that way when i have my occasional race from a dig.

It doesn't make sense to me but I've noticed this as well. I mean, first gear is first gear. How can you get a better launch in one first gear as opposed to another first gear?

Anyways, when I need to get off the line quickly I always gate shift because you can shift at redline between first and second.

Ive ran a couple people and all i can say is you're most likely gonna lose from a dig. Do a 40 roll in 2nd gear and you'll get the jump. Ive won more runs doing a 40 roll then from a dig. I use SS btw

Using the tranny at all is bad for the tranny. Just keep the car parked forever if you want the tranny to last lol.

o trust me, if people want to race im always down for that 40 roll, or even a 10 roll isnt bad.. its just yes our cars arent that fast from a dig, kinda annoying haha it probs doesnt help that my tires need to be replaced, but its annoying when you have a buddy that has a turbo s beetle that will keep up with you until like 60 its even. but o well, i slaughter him from a roll so its no big deal

Good question!

Is it me, or does anyone feel like your faster when you start manually in first, then slide to second then up to d3 when going from a dig?

This is a question that has been semi-burning in my mind for a bit now, and the feeling IS different between the shifting patterns.

The closest I can come up with (without experimenting, coming soon...) is the ECM is trimming the timing and or fuel curves differently, or bypassing the circuit protection completely.... I know it does this for the 1-2 shift at redline, but I want to know if there is more happening in the ECM programming - not that it really matters, can't change a thing -

We have a killer scanner here at my shop that I will be making movies of the different ways to shift from a dig to see if there really is a difference, what and how much.

When I get all the data set and compared, I will be posting the results

Yesterday I noticed something werd when Using SS have you guys noticed our car completely Bypass 2nd Gear while Downshifting into a Stop? for Example:

Im using SS and Im coming down a Stop In less than 60mph in 4th then I reduce less than 30mph and Downshift into 3rd. If I let the car goes down 20 when it Obviously feels 3rd is Very heavy for the Engine and Wait for the Auto-Downshift the car doesnt give a Crap and It still downshift into 1st when completely Stop.

This also Happends if you select D4 or D3.
Now Im starting to Notice this in D5 too the Car completely Neglects 2nd (Downshift) In most city Driving...

Does this Have anything to do with the Trans Recall + ECU CHANGE?? Becouse before That I swear my Trans did go Into 2nd before coming to a Stop..... Anyone still has Their Original Tranny + ECU?

I beat a new Camaro V6 6MT from a dig. Got about one car length on him I believe. Those things are heavy as shit.

My car did all of this before and after my trans swap, before was all OE, after is OE ECU and av6 trans.

I think it's just the nature of the beast in the ECU programming.

My RDX, TSX, TL, and Forester (all auto w/sport shift) all went from 3rd to 1st when coming to a stop. I think it's just the norm.
