Smile Pros and Cons of Removing Resonator

So I'm thinking about removing the resonator off of my 1999 TL. Just wondering what the pros and cons are and how difficult the job is and just looking for some feedback from those that have already done this mod.
Thanks!

it's simple. look in the DIY section and the only "con" per say is that the car will be louder. but i don't think many people on this forum would call that a bad thing

not to mention that even if you get an intake, you have to take out the res to begin with

It's only noticeably louder under load.

He has a 1999 TL, it may be new to him, but its hardly new. Not only that but why spend money on something that you dont need to and can achieve practically the same goal by doing something that costs nothing but time.....

What is the "goal" you are trying to "achieve"? A sound or an actual gain? just curious?

pros: louder roar (especially when it hits vtec), maybe a slight gain in hp? since there is no intake resonator

cons: humming sound on idle, air filter gets dirty faster

--

another thing i would be worried about when removing the intake resonator is rainy days.. what if you splash into a puddle by accident and water flies up into the intake? (since there is just a big empty hole and nothing to cover it). But I know nothing will happen unless you go through huge puddles.

i've been thru the whole stage from stock to intake resonator to cai. i am currently switching around from intake resonator removal or cai. right now, cai beats all.

Youre worried about sucking up water from the resonator removal but are fine with a CAI that puts the intake down at the bottom of the bumper...... not much logic there.

The stock filter housing is sitting pretty high up and you would have to be in water that would completely submerge your bumper in order to get water in there.... if you are willing to drive into puddles like that than water in your intake should be the least of your worries.

im fine with cai since i have a prefilter installed ... lol

and yes i know stock filter housing sits up high .. but you never know since theres a bigass hole just waiting for something to be sucked in.

ive been fine driving through huge puddles and monsoon like storms with my CAI. filter wasnt even wet

i guess thats what the splash shield is for... i mean theres only like 3-5 slots for air to get through it IIRC so not much water can get past it. fsttyms1 had a video of him driving through what was basically a lake and he was fine too.

as for SRI vs. CAI, i noticed the CAI was better than the SRI in the summer but is not making much difference as the weather gets colder. im thinking of switching back to my SRI as a winter setup...

i heard there's a significant gain in throttle response. any feedback on that?
as of now, my main concern is the winter and rainy days. anyone know how often i'm going to have to replace my filter if i remove the resonator?
thanks!

I think all the gain is in perception because of the nice sounding growl.

i honestly didn't feel any gains after removing my intake resonator.. thats all basically in your head. just cause it sounds louder, doesnt mean its actually faster guys

even with the cai on.. most people don't really feel the difference in hp gains. if you really wanna feel power, get headers. thats the only real engine mod that you can feel power from.

^we never said that it was faster...but it is a better sound. the resonator is there to reduce the noise. so taking it out will increase the noise.

you MIGHT have better throttle response and it is the first step towards getting new intake and overall performance

i remember him saying the filter was almost dry afterwards. hydrolock is extremely rare!

I heard from my mechanic the only real con is that your air filter will get dirtier faster but...

JUST DO IT!! Honestly, you won't notice much with just removing the resonator. If you wanna be cheap like me, just get a short ram intake and you'll really notice it.

And that guy in the video is freaking brave for doing a test like that.
