Cool PICS! Before & After (Window Tint "Re-Tint")

Finally got around to getting my windows retinted

Old Tint consisted of:

35% all doors and rear window (felt it was way too light due to tan interior)

New Tint consists of:

20% all doors, added another layer of 35% to rear window.

I didn't have the back window stripped for fear of damaging defroster/antenna. Plus, for the rear window, I didn't want to go 20% (too light) or 5% (too dark). The second layer of 35% is appx 12-15% darkness which is perfect for me.

Here are the old 35% all windows tint pics

Here are the new 20% with two layers of 35% on rear window

does it really work that way if i layer it (multiply)? so if i put 50 on the 20 it comes out to 10?

well, not sure exactly, but I heard from various people, including tinters that the basic formula is to multiply the tint percentage. keep in mind, the factory tint is about 94 pct. A while back in MN, I had a buddy with a tint meter measure my 20pct on my old Accord. the percentage actually read 14 percent, so you could estimate that if you have 35pct, you actually are at about 29pct. I don't think the formula is an exact science...especially when it comes to 5pct. I don't think you would have -1pct if you put 5pct...but then again, a car with 5pct all around is impossible to see into.

I would NOT double layer your side windows. they will most likely peel due to the windows going up and down. the rear window doesn't move obviously, that's why you have better luck on those types.

I dunno man, RonJon's Inspyres or Devotion 19's look really good to me right about now, but to spend nearly two grand for a car I may not keep that much longer doesn't make sense. But, I am looking to see what the 07 TL Type S is all about and maybe graduate to that. The 2g RonJon's won't work on the 3g, so I think I'm gonna wait. The chromes I have now still look pretty sharp, even though they are only 6.5" wide For now, I am done with mods, I think I got enough to get by...for now

From what I have read and heard, layering tint on windows that roll up and down have more of a risk of peeling than stationary windows. Can't say for sure it would or wouldn't. I'm sure some have been successful and others not.

I've been dealing with my tinter since 1992, so he gives me a great deal everytime I go. Basically, he charged me $160 for the strip and re-tint. Keep in mind, I have had all my cars, my friends cars, my family members cars tinted by him. Just for comparison, I called around and many places were charging $150 to strip and another $200-$250 to tint!!! So, I am not complaining about the price I got.

The pics make it look much darker than it really is in person. It all depends on angles. Plus, tan interior makes it look light. A dark interior would make it look really dark!

I hope it won't be a problem for ATL, I plan to move there soon! They got inspections there?

No, no inspections in georgia. Cops south of atlanta are not jerks (except for Savanah), but don't know what they are like on the north side. For the most part, they like giving speeding tickets out here.

In the Metro area, these are more suggestions than laws. The cops here mostly have better things to worry about than tint or a little speeding.

No, as I mentioned in my first post, I added a second 35% layer. Wish I would added 20% instead though

You can strip tint with steam or the old black garbage bag trick for rear windows. Some cars have the defroster strips built in to the glass. Not sure if the TL is that way or not.

You can strip it yourself as well. I did this on my old sc300 and it wasnt too hard. I just used a razor blade and made sure i stayed in between the defroster lines, then went over the lines lightly with steel wool to get the rest off. Defroster worked fine after.

Where would you recommend in MN would you go to for tinting? I just bought a 2002 TL-S and want to get 20% on the windows but still seem afraid of getting pulled over since they are more strict her than other states. Do I need felt for my windows?

damn i was thinking of doing the samething on my car. I had my windows tinted to 35% in fear that i didnt want to worry about getting pulled over for my tint but i know a lot of people that have 20% all around without any problems. So i think i might go back and get them to retint my windows. They advised me to have them strip the old tint off and lay down a new set of tint which i think they charged around $230 in total. $70 for stripping the old tint and $160 for the new 20% tint.

Could you also send me a PM on the spoiler info? Your TL looks niiice

Looks great at 20 percent. I'll be getting mine 15% soon on all windows (pics will follow), except the front and including the sunroof. I can't find anywhere around me with all these low tint prices everyone keeps quoting though. One place is $280 and appts backed up till mid-may and the other $300 for the job. Oh well, such is life.
