Painting Headlights

I got some brand spanking new headlights, paint is drying on the inserts right now. my question is im worried about getting a bunch of the old glue on the lens and inserts when i try to put it all back together. is there a simple way to remove all the old glue on the enclosures?

Use a heat gun and a flathead screwdriver and pry away as it's hot and workable

I never removed the old silicon when taking apart headlights. I only heat it up and pray apart carefully.

I always put it back together with the old silicon there.. just heat it up well and let them seal themselves tight...

don't damage the housings too much during the prying (flat head marks and what not)
