Need Input: DIY Sway Bars. Is This Stupid?

So I was researching this new "fad" (if you want to call it that) of Hypermiling and stumbled upon something that I found interesting. It's directions on how to make your own sway bars.

http://themoportal.com/articles/powr...ttowerbars.pdf

Now let's get something straight though first... I'm not a performance junkie, I can hold my own as a mechanic, I don't have any aftermarket parts on my TL, and I'm frugal.

It looks easy enough to do, and certainly cheap enough as well ($10),.. so I'm thinking why not. I've always wanted to try it, but I didn't want to sink in $300 for something I don't feel I really need. I'm not looking to get massive improvement, just some. Do you guys think it's worth trying?

Those are actually strut tower bars, not sway bars.

A lot of research has gone into the manufacturing of the higher-end sway/strut bars to improve handling performance.

I don't know how strong two bars will be and how well your own welding or non-welding techniques (as specified in the article) will hold up.

I would stick to the proven brands rather than a DIY.

I'm confident in my mechanical abilities. I'm just curious if this rig would provide any benefit.

Incase you have never opened your hood, we already have a strut bar on the TL and its a good one, its a multi point and not just a tower to tower bar
