Muffler clarification (sizes)

Is the stock piping for the 99 TL mufflers 2.25?

Also, other than Magnaflow, what other reputable mufflers are out there? I've done the search and came up with Apexi and Tanable, but was curious about others.

I ordered nice tips, but now just need to replace the mufflers (for now) since the previous owner decided to weld some cheap tips to the stock muffler!

I'm also just thinking about getting some cheap mufflers for now and save up for the full system. The stock mufflers look terrible, as do the tips.

Thanks for any input,
B

My opinion i would just keep the stock ones and bare with it. Save up the money for a the whole catback. Why spend money on cheap ones and get the whole catback later. You're just wasting more money there while you can save up and get the catback and a something extra like pulleys, intake, headers, etc...

For me i'd go with the Apexi, because i had that on my previous car and i love it. It sounds nice...has a deep tone to it =) I could feel a little bit more power and the torque at the low end... Good luck with your project.

why not go magnaflow? Stock piping size for a 99 is 2 inches. I have a magnaflow custom cat-back on my 03 TL.

Magnaflow is a good choice. SO are Apex'i and Tanabe but like unknown said save for the real deal. I have a Tanabe SMH or had, it's under construction right now, and I love it. It is a lot like the Apex'i but a bit louder. Whatever you choose good luck.

Thanks for the input guys. I think I'll go with the Magnaflows, so I can use the custom tips I ordered. I'll be mounting my new tires, rims and Tein Basics real soon and the only unsightly item that sticks out are the mufflers. I'll post some pics when complete.

BTW: Hockeyman0920, nice choice on rims - I was real close on getting those!
