LED versus HID

I have the common problem of my right hand light going out when ever it feels like it. Since I will need to check wiring, ballasts and bulbs I started researching it all. In that I came across replacement bulbs that are LED versions. Have any of you tried these and if you did, how did you find them overall?

Thanks
Cec

I do not believe it is possible to replace the HIDs with LEDs on your car unless you are able to find a full kit which includes new headlight housings. Regardless, it will be far cheaper to fix what you have than to try and retrofit your car.

I haven't done a ton of research yet other than a few basic searches but D2R LED bulb kits should be available and should be compatible with our cars.

The retailers of LEDs will tell you they are compatible but don't believe it. If your car has true HIDs, then you have effectively a gas bulb with it's own very unique light pattern, nothing which even remotely resembles the pattern thrown by an LED bulb.

On the other hand, if your car has Halogen bulbs, you should be able to find plug in LED bulbs which *may* work, but even then the light pattern thrown by the bulbs are rather different.

Interestingly I came across information that also says we can use LEDs as well, which was why I created the thread. I also think I have to remove the entire front fender skirt to get to the light assemblies. Interesting way to go about it

Thanks for the input as always

On my 2001 Accord (same basic car as a 2G TL), I had to remove both the front bumper and the fender liner to replace the light assemblies.

You can get an D2R LED bulb, but LED is horrible.

Stick with HID.

Mine are 18 years old and the right one goes in and out for no reason I can find. The cost is up there for OEM style replacements so I hoped to save some overall, but I'm not sold on them. If the cost were more in line I'd buy two complete light sets from the ground up. *darn it, back to eBay I guess

Let me know what you find. I'm not going to pursue HID anymore on my car and my right igniter is going out.

The light pattern shouldn't be any different between different D2R bulbs in the same housing, unless you have an LED bulb that doesn't have an even pattern of LEDs on the actual bulb.

OK, it took this long to get back to the project. I didn't realize that the person who owned it ahead of me had already changed them over. I found out when it blew and I went to replace them. So no, I have to say it's probably not the best idea simply because I've never thought mine bright enough as it is and adjusting them is close to hard as it can get. I did put two new 65 watt bulbs in to replace the 55 watt units that was there so somewhat better light, but overall I'd like to see what original lighting looked like.
