Angry Header install nightmare

Well it seemed like all was goin well till we got to the cat/downpipe bolts. holy shit those fuckers were soo rusted WD40 and torque wrench didnt do the job, then we tried heating it with a propane torch, they didnt budge. we finally cut the bolts got the downpipe off. then we had to drill new holes. The drill bit decided it didnt want to go thru. at tht point we just put the xs manifolds on the car torqued them down and called it a night. we started at 3pm finished at 11pm and barely finished half way cause of those three fuckin bolts. im soo pissed

this is wht i think of those 3 bolts

the gains better be worth it on top of everything its fuckin snowin and i wont even really get to test them out once the install is done

This is why I have yet to buy headers for my car. Several people seem to be having a hard time getting those stupid bolts off. I hope all turns out well for you.

It may have helped to drop the entire exhaust system and worked on it off the car instead of under it. Yes those bolts can be a pain. It helps to use a GOOD penetrating oil and not wd40. It will be worth it!

that was why I'm glad I had air tools when I installed my headers. If you can, try to get your hands on some air tools and those things will come off. good luck man.

same thing happened to me, i had to drop down the whole exhaust from the other side of the cat. i was usin wd-40 too i tihnk that may be the problem. i wanted to get sumthyn else but my boy said wd-40 is the same shyt and like a dumbass i listened. i had to take mine to a shop to cut the bolt and drill out a new one. i couldnt find the bits to do it myself. they raped me for $60 but i had no choice it was getting late and no1 else was open. while the cat was out i decided to gut and now im gettin a cool yellow light on my cluster!!!

ok so i just took it for a test drive and i defi feel the power. theres one problem...something seems to be making alot of noise besides the gases going thru the headers. i think it might be the heat shield on the cat, because when we were taking it off one of the bolts broke off so we left it with 3 instead of 4. but right now my car sounds like absolute shit at low RPMs. you guys have any ideas on what it could be, it sounds like something is rattling around inside

Ok guys, i just got home from a pretty successful day working on my buddys car and my TL. We installed the header on my boys 04 Civic, then we installed my XSP headers on my car AND i did the whole in dash LED conversion along with installing the white TL-S gauge cluster

Some of you guys said it took you like 8 hours to install the headers... well it took me and my boy 2 1/2 hours.... without air tools.... and not one bolt was broken in the process There are no leaks so i am pretty happy with the outcome. I also used the OEM gasket and the ones provided by XSP. i do feel a bit of a difference but maybe i'll notice it more over time. I'll be installing my Tsudo mufflers this week before our Tampa mini-meet. One thing i am not happy with is the LEDs in dash. The LEDs turned out a light bluish color although they are ultra whites. Yes, i did take out the blue filters and they are still blusih. and Yes i did order and receive ultra white LEDs.

Ok let me stop, i'm sorry for the lol

I blasted all the bolts with PB blaster and then used a wire brush to clean the threads. They came off easy as pie, with a breaker bar .

I'm just glad that my car had a new transmission put in a while back so I think many of those bolts must have been removed when that was done. It wasn't too difficult for me. The ones I didn't like are on the rear header. My friend was standing on my engine trying to torque them down.

Yes last time I tried my headers these mofos would not budge. Used an impact gun and did nothing. I have a 4 foot breaker bar for next time and am hoping thats enough I would like to avoid cutting the studs off.

Start spraying them a week before the install with a good penetrating oil like PB Blaster or something similar. It will make life easier

I had a new tranny put in just a few months ago. I think they just torqued everything down to max with thier air guns. Thanks for the suggestion on that stuff I will check it out for sure! As fstty suggested I kept spraying the bolts down with kroil and it has removed most of the rust around there so hopefully next time I take a crack at it the suckers will actually come out .

If you use some of those products they posted, i dont think it will take you that long at all. Took my 2 1/2 hours without any of those products and without air tools...

They must be just rusted to hell. I thought I would not have a problem with that with the weather here in vegas. I guess its just the location.

Took a long time....like 4 hours. The header install itself was fast, but DC supplied the wrong gaskets so we needed to hit up the parts store for some emergency replacements, and I was trying to resolve some funcky sounds for an hour that turned out to be 'normal.'

Really, I could have it done in 2.5 hrs now.
