h.i.d. question

is it ok to remove the cover behind the headlight to change the bulb? a little reluctant after seeing all the high voltage warnings. want to change the hid bulbs, was ready to do it today. only thing that held me back was that i didnt have the correct bit (looks like a star w/ a hole). just figured i would find out if its safe first. thanks...

i also hesitated before changing my bulbs after reading all those warnings but it's not hard to change the bulbs. for driver side pull up the black air flow thing right behind the headlight to get more space.. and for passenger side remove the washer fluid hose.... also replace them in pairs and don't touch the bulbs with bare hands. also the best color temp is 5000k in my opinion as i tried 6000k before and believe me u can't see anything during rainy day.

Yes you need to Remove It, Just be very careful with the Bulb Holding Clip as it will break with very little force (Been There).

Just Remove the Bulb by Pushing the little Clip clamp out of the holder,
Turn the Bulb to remove it from the Igniter,
Install New Bulb on the Igniter (Dont Forget to Turn it Back),
Allign the Bulb back into the plug making sure the electrical bridge is looking down!
Now the tricky part is to put back the clip again You just need to put the clamp back into the holder and thats it! you should hear a "Click" when you put the clamp into the Holder.

All of this is Relatively easy if you Do yourself a Favor and Remove the Windshield Cleaner Deposit Neck for the Passenger Side and Battery + Air Box conducts behind the Drivers Side, With those off all the work is a piece of Cake.

Yea you have to remove the black cover. Like skirmich said be careful about the clamp because when i first put my HIDs in the little clamp broke off because i made the noob mistake of unscrewing it when i didnt need to. then my headlight aim was way off because it wasn't secured in. I had to hit up a junk yard to get an extra one after i failed to make on myself to hold it on until i got a new one.

That would be 4300K (AMBER) but the Best Replacement is 5K (PURE WHITE).

the special screw is a torx #20 Security bit- you can buy a screwdriver with that tip at parts store
You have to remove it to access the bulbs

Or you can use a small flatblade screwdriver shoved in the edge and force it- its not very tight

I would remove the cars nose and pull the entire housings- its way easier in my opinion than working blind with that clip
If the bulbs not in flat and the clip secured- you are going back in~

5k best to see with -for me

note on danger- as long as you let the lights rest for several hours - the danger is gone.
basically, if left overnight, work on them in the morning no sweat

if driven with lights on, then try to work on a very high voltage storage system--you may get the shock of your life!

I Always disconnect the battery and turn the Headlights On Inmediatly so any Residual Electricity will go and Work On right away...

Tough I was one shocked with a Ballast electricity (Different Situation) while doing my Fogs hohohoho feels like a household plug kinda shock I Dunno why it tells 25K Volts feeled like a regular Shock..

in the time it takes to move parts around- you can pop the nose off the car and have direct access to the entire housing
remove and set on workbench where you can deal with that tricky clip easily
It must be on correct so bulb sits flat and stays there

Skirm you are a thrillseeker
its AMPS that kill you, not the volts

25kvolts is when the system is charged to ignite the bulbs, then it uses a lower running voltage = the potential is there for major death for the untrained
working on these lights immedialty after they have been in use, will likely result in serious injury!!

easier to unplug it before taking it out of the assembly imo

my experience with this job was to change the housings, then later new hid kit with ballast etc- so popping the nose off was required

To me, it seems like the easy way, over removing parts inside the engine compartment-
and the difficulty many have with that retainer clip - which is a critical install part

the beauty of it all- freedom of choice! both methods presented and user decides
