Fog Light questions

Howdy y'all.

I was wondering what colour temperature fog lights come stock on a 2002 TL. I got it in my head to update the look of my highbeam lights yesterday so I decided to order a pair of 5,000k bulbs to replace the stock ones which I believe are 3,200k. To complete the look I want to order a set of fog light bulbs, but can't decide what to get, so I thought I'd ask here. What do you guys thing would look better?

I already have 4,300k bulbs for my HIDs, I'll have 5,000k bulbs for my highbeams... should I go for similar temperature bulbs for the foglights, lower, or higher?

Also, as one of my fog light lenses is cracked and condensation has gotten in there, I thought I might replace them with the lexan lenses that're popular on ebay. What's the general opinion on them? Will the lexan melt or show signs of wear under the heat of the fog lights? Are there alternate routes I can take?

Thnx for any help!

Headlights: 4300k Stock (Upgrade suggestions is 5000k or 6000k) nothing higher
Foglights: 3000k/3200k for the yellow look or 6000k to match headlights

I dunno about doing anything to the highbeams...

if your lens is cracked, go get a new one. you can try to replace it or cover it up, but the end result will be that you will either get bubbles unless the film is thick enough and can handle the heat from the HID bulbs or moisture will get in again and mess up the bulbs themselves.

Thanks for the response. I recently put the 4300k HID bulbs in, so I suppose I'll be keeping them for a while. I hope they'll match well with the 5000k bulbs I ordered for my daytime running lights/highbeams.

I'm considering HID foglights, but those aren't exactly a priority right now. I would like to get the cracked lens fixed before the winter hits though, but dont' know if I should go for the lexan lenses or not. I know some people here have tried them, so I'm hoping I can get some feedback about their quality and durability. My main concern is that the standard foglight bulbs will be too hot for the lexan plastic. I've heard the HID foglights would produce a lot less heat and would be fine with the lexan lenses, I'm just trying to figure out the best course of action now.

heh, I'm not country... I just say things like that for shits and giggles.

Anyways, I've gotta wait a couple of weeks for the money transfer to my Paypal account, and I suppose if I'm still interested in the lexan lenses by then, I'll go for 'em.

I'm still not sure about the HID foglights though. The guy I got to replace one of my HID ballasts said he could do the job on the foglights for $200. I suppose it's not bad, I'm just wondering if it's really worth it. I've watched some Youtube videos and the HID foglights really do seem to make a large difference. Plus if I do go with the lexan lenses they'll be the safer route as the risk of melting the lenses will be pretty much nothing... I dunno...

Anyways, hope to hear from some others who've gone through this stuff already

If you want them to match, get 4300 HID fogs. Here are mine day/night.

Now that looks dead sexy!

I think I'll go that route, I just need to save up a bit to get it all done. I suppose the only other thing to consider is whether I should get the lexan lenses or not to go over 'em.

Can anyone think of a reason NOT to get the lexan lenses if I'm going with the HID fog lights? Anyone know of alternatives?

Thanks!

I got them for $101 shipped from ebay user "yourhid" Since I have owned my TL 11/06 only once has a foglight been broken on me. It was before the HID kit and the bulb didn't break.

Depending on your driving, and how many rocks fly up at your car it's up to you if you want to take the time to do that. Another alternative is the "rockblocker" film. You can get clear, yellow, smoked.

ok - I have lexan lenses and regular fog light bulbs. i ave them for over a year now and they are in great condition still. no melting or anything and I drive with my fogs on constantly.
If you are the least bit handy you can cut them yoursleves in like 15 minutes with a scroll saw or jig saw. I did this and the whole job cost me under 10$ total and i didnt have to pay for shipping or wait for my package to arrive or even pay the $50.

Take out your fog light housing and clean it up, i respraypainted mine while i had them out to make them like new....
the lexan sells for like 4$ a sheet, buy 2, one for each side , keep the white adhesive paper on the backing and trace your foglight housing right on to it, take your jigsaw and slowly cut it out to fit. it might need a little filling here and there, better to cut a little big and file down then to be too short.
next i took some clear water proof and high temp caulking - like $2 - and laid it right into to channel on the foglight housing and placed the new laexan in and clamped it together for the night to dry nice and tight.
Thats it! and for under $10 how can you wrong??

The kit you ordered for your fogs is that vehicle specific or do you need to splice wires?
also is there any mods needing to be done to our fog light housing cause the hid bulbs are longer then a normal bulb? Also what watt kit did you order 35w or 55w?

Hmm, I recieved my lexan lenses in the mail today, which I'm very happy and satisfied about. The only thing is, I'm looking at my passenger side fog light with the cracked lens and water in it, and while it's hard to tell, it does look like the chrome inside the housing has been severely fucked up. I'll try taking it off tomorrow to get a better look, but I suppose I'll have to order a new housing as well now. Too bad... the cheapest housing I can find on ebay is about 68 bucks + something like 55 bucks shipping

I dunno... I hope the damage isn't as bad as I think it is. I'll snap some pics when I get a chance.
