I gutted out my cat (which made the biggest difference for not spending any money) I took off my resonator and pre-muffler and have a test pipe in place of them, but I left the stock mufflers on, and all in all its not that much louder than stock but the performance is a big difference. With XS headers and an intake my 99 TL-P ran neck to neck with an 08 WRX so I now im in the mid 14's. I think thats pretty impressive for a car that runs high 15's in the quarter stock if not low 16's.

where did u get your cat gutted and hwo bad is the noise? like i have ram intake now and im just lookin for cheap exhaust mods and i figured maybe if i took out the cat and mid muffler then itd be great for performance and give me enough noise to the point where itd be fun, i cant afford headers, i dont think at least. right now i just want to be able to beat a stock 328ci and a lincoln ls the v8. its just competition between friends

All you do is take the 4 nuts off the cat, ( 2 on each side) and also unscrew the sensor thats on the cat and it should drop. Then get a long metal rod and hammer out ALL the ceramic honey comb lookin' stuff until the cat is completely hollow, then stick it back on. For your resonator and pre-muffler your going to have to take it to a shop so they can cut them off and weld a test pipe in place. The car will sound good after that, its not loud but its deeper.

well i run a tl-s i ran a 15 flat with a cai and gutted cat. However wen i went to the exhust shop they cut out my hollow cat and put in a pipe instead they also took out my resentaor and 3rd muffler (not sure of the tl-p has a 3rd muffler ) if you are lookin for sum performance start with a CAI or work with the exhust if you dont wanna buy a catback due to $$$$ the search the forums for exhaust. Your best bet is new piping either 2.25 inch since that is wat alot off people run. Right now i got no cat and no 3rd muffler or resenator but have my stock mufflers on. Im gettin some new mufflers for christmas present from the g/f =] . Im going to have them put in all new piping from after the custom cat delete pipe they made me goin be the same size as that

...i was wondering for those with gutted cats, if your CEL stays on or shows up after this modification. I am only asking because I am planning out an exhaust system and can't decided on either gutting the cat or coughing up the green for a hi flow cat?

if you gutt or remove your cat your cel will stay on due to emissions. If your going to do this look into gettin a dummy adapter which tricks the computer into think its fine or theres a trick with the spark plug extender that wat i did it basically lifts the o2 sensor out far enough that it does not read it and does not throw a cel
