Does it matter what is currently in there? If you want synthetic, buy it and use it.

Actually, I have heard a lot of different crap, that's why I'm all confused.

-All i want to do is just get the Damn Synthetic and high flow filter change it and be on with my life.

*All the A-holes at the Parts store say I need to slowly change over if I was not already using synthetic....Which is why I half to make this post!

If you want synthetic, you are more than welcome to use it with no ill side effects.

Dino and synthetic are interchangeable. But, I'd just stick with dino oil and a cheap filter and save money. It'll be more than adequate.

Also, there are SO MANY threads on this already on this forum, that all you would've had to do is search, and they would've shown up.

Dont listen to the morons at the parts store that tell you you you have to change it slowly. Just buy it and change it. You cna switch back and forth as you want. You can mix it you can do what you want.

I have tried both in my 03 Tl-S. No difference in gas milage so now I am back to regular oil. I change it every 5,000 miles (I have 4 cars, 2 Hondas and a Toyota and it is easy to remember that way). I have 140,000 on it and it runs great. I did the same in my last Acura (88 Legend) and had 210,000 on it when I sold it.

So I do not see a real benefit on synthetic in my experience except for one thing. I have been told that the Toyota tends to 'gunk up' on regular oil, so I use synthetic in it.

All the Hondas get Valvoline 5W20.

i used reg Valvoline 5w20 on my last change along with a purlator pure one filter, i am satisfied with it. car runs great, and smooth. see how long it lasts and how it looks at my next change, if i like it, ill stick with reg Valvoline, its cheap too.

I just switched to the Pennzoil Ultra - ultra class full synthetic. Does anyone have any experience with this ? I just realized I change my oil way to frequently - every 3000 miles.

Lol, 3000 is overkill. I just switched to Royal Purple. I can't really tell the difference over the Dealership Honda oil. I get $5 oil/filter changes at my dealership, so I might just go back to them.

I'd stick to 5W-20 or 5W-30, but it really won't make much of a difference.

^agreed, no need to run 10w-30

5w-30 or 5w-20 will be fine.

castrol gtx high mileage wont hurt anything, that stuff is little on the thicker side of 30, its good oil. Of coarse a full syn would be better.

Have used both 10w-30 & -40, no issues, no discernible difference.

Except for in cold climates its thicker and takes longer to get to vital components. You arent getting better protection from a thicker oil.

Stick with what the manufacturer recommends 5w30 or 5w20 (the later can be used in 99-01 as well)

You CAN change your oil every 50k if you want. That doesn't mean it's healthy for your car. Acura states that the oil needs to be changed every 7.5k, regardless of what oil you use. But then again, they also say to change your filter only ever 15k.
