Ecu question

So a lot of people have been telling me I need to chip my 2002 type s I've got full exhaust, heads, cai but I hear none of that really helps unless you change up your ecu and the air to gas ratio, any thoughts on this? Or suggestions on types to buy also do you need to dyno your car to properly have the mapping changed

too bad, there arent any easy tuning solutions.

with your current bolt ons, the stock ECU handles Air fuel ratios correctly!!
so, no worries, as your mods are very basic and the ECU has already compensated for them

Your friends are way wrong. You don't need any of that to tune. What you will need is to swap to 6 speed because the tuners control engine only.

There are NO chips for the TL. There is no way to reflash or tune the stock ECU. Your only option is a costly full standalone and dyno tune.

What everyone here is saying, very nicely I might add, is your friends don't know what they're talking about. You cannot tune our ECU's it'll overwrite anything you put on it. Furthermore you're pretty much at the end of your power gain 'rope' unless you want to inject some serious capital into your 12 year old Japanese luxury sedan. So unless you have the know how like fsttyms1 or any of the other pioneers here I strongly advise against it.

his friends may know what they're talking about, but not for this platform.

chipping a turbo 4 will produce more gains than we will ever see.

Just a heads up there is a tuning solution from AEM, but it isn't a full stand alone. I know from having a talk with one of our members from KRIZN

That's why I think I'll end up buying a turbo 4, my friend gained 40 torque from just a tune on his MS3 and now the damn thing's making over 350+ hp although it's wrong wheel drive.

I'm looking at the 2nd Gen Genesis Coupe, crap manual trans, 13' MS3 or15' WRX

You cannot tune our cars without a full standalone. Period. You can't do the standalone without 6MT swap.

V-8's are pure unbeatable lasting power !!!

We are gonna catch hell for sidetracking the thread, but last year's Shelby GT500 put out 662 HP @ 631 lb-ft torq. The new 5.0 GT is rated 435 HP @ 400 lb-ft torq. Wait for the SVT SC......!!!

^^^ No doubt about it, better balanced overall power to weight ratio and distribution makes sense.

But, ya know how the majority of real pony boys are gonna think when picking their horsie's killer torque.
Most of the guys will tend to only have the mind's vision of raw power down a straight line ....... and may possibly worry about the curves after a tree jumps out in front of them.

Done that a few times myself !!! Some things never change with time......more is not always sensible or better, it just sells and lasts longer.

I like what's happened here, maybe I test drive one when they come out. However, I don't know if I'd ever own a Mustang much less one without a V8 but hey I'm open to try it.

Everyone always asks how fast my car is after finding out what ive done to the motor and i tell everyone that asks, I say i dont know and i really dont care. It always gets a puzzled look on their face. My car was NEVER set up for going fast in a straight line. Sure its fast, but what it excels at is going around corners fast, Or those that ask with the how fast question that i already know have a fast car get my response of i dont know but my car is faster than yours on a road course.

I dont think we mod (you and I anyway) for horsepower.
I do it for the pure enjoyment of it.

it's fun!
I like tuning and tweaking the car to perform a certain task.
I know it'l never be fast in a straight line, it's quick...butt not fast.

road coursing is something that I do want to get into.....
butt, first I have to quit breaking/fucking up my ride....

I do enjoy having a very sticky summer tire on.
I hate these "no-seasons" that came with the TE37's that I have on right now.

hopefully, I get a lot of things done today regarding; tearing down the heads.

You guys are pioneers of keeping the TL alive. I'm rather envious of your dedication and energy which ya obviously put into these cars. But, if I'm going to go fast and spend money......I'm looking in a somewhat different direction down the road.

The newer "pony" cars really have caught my interest and I'm saving towards a nice used one. However, I commend and fully support all of your never ending labor of love efforts dealing with the TL's.

So ya already are 4 years into the game, paid off ..... butt ???
Your friends and ya keep breaking shit, so the cash is being depleted.

Cheers and have a productive day with the latest project at hand !!!

Just think, if ya spent half the time making extra OT money at your day job instead of fixing broken shit, ya might be ahead of the 10 year's program curve for an even happier life.

x1.

Going fast in a straight line is boring, no skill required.

But going fast around corners and the twisties is exhilarating, it takes skills and much courage.

Dont need a newer "pony" car for that

There are plenty of cars out there capable of going fast that have 4 doors and arent considered "pony" cars. (my buddy is putting out just shy of 500 at teh wheels in his SHO and he has spent less than 2500 bucks. Next up are new turbos. As it stands now its an incredible sleeper that just plain goes..

Yeah, but I'm an old school V-8 kinda guy who grew up loving the original "classic" muscle cars of yesteryear.

The recent Firebirds, Camaros, Mustangs and Challengers have stole my heart and soul. Plus, as I've been getting older.....I'm just getting tired of crawling under cars and losing interest with wrenching on stuff.

Thanks for the input, yeah obviously my friends don't know what they are talking about that's why I wanted to get y'all's input so thanks a lot, and I'm on the same page as y'all to save up money for a new car lol, I will most likely put a 6 speed in my car bc I'm still on my first trans at 140k and it's starting to slip and pop out of 4th more and more, but in terms of getting a new car I'm really liking the 2012 speed3s and up not to pricey but good on gas and have great power to weight ratio

I love the Speed's man don't get me wrong but if you do go that route be so careful about modding those cars. I have 3 friends who have had them and 2 blew their engines quite easily even with just a CAI a tune is a must.
