just buy a new guage cluster and you'll be back at 000000 again, then you can sell it as brand new

NO. Your speedo wont work either, and tampering with the odo will show a error message that shows its been tampered with.

And the question is WHY. There is a way but your answer has to be correct

I doubt you could do this without having problems driving. I had a 95' Mustang GT and the odometer wire was conveintly open under the car and all you had to do was unplug it and hang it on something (i started using double sided velcro). I did this only on long 45 minute commute to school and the only problem was when you came to a stop you had to drop into neutral and rev the engine slightly as it dropped to 1500 rpm or the engine would die. I think the wire used to connect the odometer also is used by the fuel system to tell the cpu your speed and control fuel. Also this is very illegal and a serious fine and you would avoid jail time if your first offense, but would have to pay an attorney about 5K to keep you out, take a plea agreement of a year supervised probation, and pay about $2,500 in fines and court costs, and that is after the negotiated probation/fines, they are allowed to go for @ least a year if not more and I wouldnt do it.

i guess ur talking about your speed sensor, not your odometer, since the odometer is inside your gauge cluster lol

oh and btw since when is it illegal to change your gauge cluster/mileage? people replace gauge clusters all the time, especially in the import world, usually for better looking clusters, or higher rpms, or ones from different cars. if u do it to defraud someone, stating the lower mileage as actual, then yes that is illegal. but it is not illegal in itself to put a lower mileage cluster in your car. thats what the "not actual mileage" checkbox is for on titles or registration papers.

Yea the odometer is in the gauge cluster but what do you think sends the signal "lol"

And any tampering with the odometer is ILLEGAL(hence disabling the odometer thread) Especially with the intent to hide actual mileage

yes but he unplugged the speed sensor, not the odometer. and thats why the car started to have other issues. if u did that in a car with vtec, that also would not work.

There cannot possibly be another reason to "disable" the odometer besides avoiding clocking miles.

If thats the case, then my advice on towing is either flatbed, car carrier, or at the very minimum tow it with the front wheels off the ground.

I don't think this guy is going to come back with a "legit" answer as to why he wants to disable it. lol

Miles are miles, cars are meant to be driven. Honda/Acura hold value very well regardless of mileage. I'd feel like I'm cheating myself let alone when I trade/sell the car. I like to see how many miles I rack up.

What about behind a motorhome.

Isn't that bad for the tranny? I know for a short period it's ok, but isn't it advised not to tow for an extended period of time?

Might as well turn this thread into something useful. lol

I decided to pull out the owners manual on this one.

"If your Acura cannot be transported by flat-bed, it should be towed by wheel-lift equipment with the front wheels off the ground. If, due to damage, your car must be towed with the front wheels on the ground do the following.

-Release the parking brake.
-Start the engine.
-Shift to D5, then to N. (99 D4)
-Turn off the engine.

Withe the front wheels on the ground, it is best to tow the car no farther than 50 miles, and keep the speed below 35mph."

I always thought that when towing a car, the drive wheels had to be off the ground. If it's a 4x4 you should disconnect the driveshaft.

With most autos, the fluid pump that runs from the engine needs to run in order to ensure the bearings in the trans are properly lubicrated, I think specifically some planetary gears (I'm not a trans expert)?
I had a friend that caught a pickup on fire by flat towing it on the freeway from overheating the trans bearings due to lack of lubrication.
Around '95, Saturns had a rear pump that was driven by the trans output shaft. That allowed them to be flat towed. My folks bought one specifically for towing it behind their motorhome.
It should be OK (check your manual) to flat tow a manual trans car.
It should be OK (check your manual) to flat tow an auto 4x4 if you put the transfer case in N.
