Differences of Radiators
Hi guys! Today I wanted to change my old leaky radiator that was a long time in my garage. I found one difference: new radiator from the Type S does not have the tank to cool the ATF. I wonder why? Transmission Type S does not need to be cooled? Sorry for My English =) Thanks!
The '99 model year TL was the only 2nd Gen which came from the factory with a ""built-in" ATF cooler within the radiator. The '00 and up have no cooler. If desired, an aftermarket ATF cooler can be independently mounted.
As far as the tranny's need to be cooled......IDK for sure. Maybe someone else can chime in to help ya out.
Apparently the Honda gurus felt there was no real necessity for a tranny cooler, but besides the '99 TL having an older design 4 speed AT and the built in cooler......it's the only 2nd Gen model that doesn't eat trannys.
Go figure !!!
WTF, maybe it was the bottom line bean counters.

^ like he said, Only the 99 had the built in cooler. Personally, i dont believe adding one is worth it. I had 4 failures with one on. Fluid temp hasnt been the problem. Getting enough fluid to the clutches to keep them cool is the issue.
