custom y-pipe

it seems like axel backs work well for our car for hp gains as upposed to cat backs. could this be because of the stock ypipe being restrictive? it looks restrictive when looked at or is it just because our pipes get smaller diameter after ypipe or are the back mufflers that restrictive im wondering because i cuold save a lot of money just buying a different ypipe joint and welding it in and removing the stock one. since ive already removed the resonator and mid muffler i like the noise and i want it to be even louder =) ypipe and back mufflers is what im looking at next

Unless you know of a shop w mandrel bender you're gonna have to order the bends and straight pieces then cut and weld them together to create the Y pipe. Unfortunately for me no one close to me has a mandrel bender.

Yea there's a video of what you're doing. An azine member has it. He deleted everything after the cat I believe and just got straight pipes to Y pipe to more straight pipe. No resonators or mufflers at all.

Here's what it sounds like if you're going full straight pipes after the cat.

The mufflers are only part of the issue. All the piping needs to be replaced. No sense in just the Y. Look at the pipe before the Y. Its flattened out some and more of a flat bottomed oval. If your going to replace the Y might as well have a shop replace all the pipe from the cat back with something larger. Stock is only 2" on the TL-P and 2.25 on the S.

after my manual swap this summer and i save up more money from my just acquired job. im going to do a xs turbo kit, will a 3" aluminized exhaust pipe be expensive to weld or anything? from jegs.com its only like 15 dollars for every 4 feet of pipe. seems pretty cheep to make an exhaust out of that. anything im misinformed on? cus innacurate had like 8 feet of just pipe and like 3 feet of other stuff on exhaust. so thats about 12 feet and 12 3 times is 4 feet and 4 times the cost of 15 each is 60. plus welding. seems like a inexpensive exhaust to me. also anyone read anything on xs power turbo kit?

Look at how thick the piping is. My sis ex bf bought a titanium axleback for his bmw and the shop tried to stretch the end of the axleback to fit onto the existing piping it cracked like that. Make sure its thick enough.
