comptech axle backs/ oem kit

I just bought a set of comptech axleback mufflers, and i have the oem kit for the 99 TL, however the mufflers dont seem to come back to the cutouts in the rear lip they hang back a few inches, anyone else have this problem, is there a fix?

What part # did you get? I wondered if you got the CL axlebacks instead of the TL ones.

I have just about the same setup but I have the catback and my exhaust is the same way. I wish there was an easy way to extend the exhaust a little but I don't want to cut and weld to make it longer so I will just stick with it the way it is.

I am fortunate to have a father in-law that has a repair shop. What I (actually he) did to help solve this problem is heat up the pipes with his torch and manipulate them until we had a perfect fit. I had one hanging a bit too low and one hanging too far back. We played with them for about half an hour until they were both hanging even and so they were both evenly sticking out of the rear lip. I know that some muffler shops will do this for you too, and it will only cost you a few $$$. Good luck

Yep, most shops who install the mufflers will make sure it sits correctly with your setup

They both sit level, i just wish they would stick out of the ass end a lil further, id like the tips to sit right in the cut outs of the oem kit, without having to extend or modify the comptech pipes

I think you may have misunderstood what I wrote. My Comptechs were uneven AND hanging too far back after I first installed them. A shop can heat the pipes up in certain spots and bend them to extend your tips out further to where you want them to be. That's what I did and they both extend right to the end of my rear lip now. It's a simple thing to do, and it won't hurt them.

I hope that helps.

They do sound great, i like how its not annoying sound at all, just a nice deep sporty note to it. I was hesitant on putting any exhaust on the car, i went through an Apex'i n1 and a Greddy EVO2 on my 95 accord, they had great sound but, that annoying rumble under the floor boards, and that annoying sound on longer trips. I recommend that Comptech Axlebacks to anyone...

Got Comptech Axle-Backs w/tips and installed them yesterday. I also seem to have a bit of a difference in the dangle but the extension seems OK.
While I had the car jacked up I sanded and painted the y-pipe with high temp flat black paint. Pic is weak it's in the garage but it's been raining for the past couple days.
