Cheap CAI

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/00-03...18#ht_2545wt_0

Alright, so this intake is only $40, so I know it can't be the best product, but that's a hell of a deal. Correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't it pretty much just a pipe? I mean, could they really screw it up that much? The air filter's probably crappy, so I guess you could just slap a K&N on there, but should I just go with a brand name intake instead? I'm tempted by the price, but deterred by the fact that I've never heard of that company. Advice please.

Save some money and get a cheap AEM CAI on eBay. You dont want a POS and have it break on you in a month. Go for quality, it will save you in the long run. And yea go for K&N or AEM Filters

If you really don't care about the quality and you are strapped for cash, buy it.

You get what you pay for. Fitment, finish, durability. The way I see it, if it was your beater daily driver car, go for it. The TL is a nice, higher end luxury sport sedan. Why put cheap parts on it?

And yes, you can drive in the snow with a CAI, as long as you aren't pushing the snow into the filter, or driving through huge deep puddles.

It really doesnt matter what kind of intake you get as long as it isnt drinking water off the ground or having vacuum leaks. If you get the ebay one you will be fine. Only reason I bought an AEM was cause it was $60. Otherwise I juts buy my own piping kits and make my own CAI for $60.

I say get the cheap pipe and K&N Cone filter. I made sure to buy an ebay CAI with black couplers and vacuum hoses to make it look less cheap. I *may* just paint the piping black as well with BBQ grille paint.

The CAI is is a fixed part...there aren't any movable parts to it, so I don't see how it can "break".

EDIT: Also, the one I got was a 1-piece pipe as well.

^x2. looks stock, gives a nice tone, and it costs nothing at all, just some time.

You either take the front bumper off, or go through via the driver's side wheel well (more so underneath the side of the bumper though).

And it's just a matter of a flat-head screw driver and loosening the clamp.

you could do that or turn the wheel to the right, take out a couple screws or clips and pull back the fender lining and their it is.

I take back what I said. I've been in 40F weather tonight outside to no avail. The ebay CAI didn't have the bypass piece that the Injen has for the coolant lines (and if I'm supposed to use the smaller supplied hose to replace the stock 2 hoses, that will make the installation even more troublesome), so I bought one (which started leaking). And to top it off, the pipe was too long with NO room for the cone filter! I'm going to have to drive around with the resonator off like I've been doing for the last 2-3 weeks. I went back to stock for now. I may just wait until it starts back heating up in the Spring before either buying an Injen/Comptech CAI or taking the time to modify this one.

I wouldn't care if I had a garage, I'd just modify stuff and get creative + take my time...but I don't. I live in apartments. I say buy a quality piece.

if you want show a picture of what you have. I installed a few ebay intakes on my friends' Type S' with no problem. Its just a matter of moving stuff around. Also you should b able to use the stock hoses. I wasnt aware that Injen Intakes came with a bypass peice for throttle body coolant either.

Everything lined up correctly, even the vibration mount piece, so I'm not sure. Maybe it was for a CL and not "both"? Is that even possible?
