Changing the HID Bulb..

Just bought a different set of HID bulbs to go along with my stock ballast, what's the easiest and fastest way to change the lights?

tOny3 04-04-2012 01:56 AM

Take the weather caps off. You'll need a T10 security bit to take it off though, i think its the T10. Twist the ignitor off and pull the bulb out. Now reverse what you did and you're done. The bulb has notches that fit in the hole so you cant really mess anything up.

Sharma1492 04-04-2012 10:16 AM

That's it? i was told i need to take off the front bumper, ect. because i cannot access the driver side light.

tOny3 04-04-2012 10:40 AM

I can access both sides fine? If you do need to take off your bumper its pretty easy, i take mines off less then 1min lol.

if you need to take the headlight housing out yes....just bulbs...no

Sharma1492 04-09-2012 12:30 AM

Do you have steps or instructions on how that fast? but let me know please.

Sharma1492 04-09-2012 12:31 AM

but idk that's just what i was told by numerous people and read online.

Skirmich 04-09-2012 01:48 AM

Easy job tops 30 minutes....

For the Driver Side removing the Battery should be the Easy route, If you feel the need for even more room then remove the Filter Box < Super Easiest Way = More Time.

For the Passenger Side removing the Windshield Liquid Washer fill tube with a single 10mm socket should leave enough room.
Passenger Side is the easiest to replace!

fsttyms1 04-09-2012 09:21 AM

If you look in the DIY thread there are instructions and pics. The car it was done on has a CAI and doesnt have the factory airfilter box in place. Its very easy and there is no need to remove the bumper or headlights to do this.

Can I update my 2000 TL's bulb to HID?

tOny3 04-09-2012 11:07 AM

Im pretty sure your TL already has HID's in it from factory. If you want you can just upgrade to an aftermarket HID kit.

zmwang 04-09-2012 01:34 PM

really?

It looks yellow to me and there is no lens like those high end cars?

I mean this:

tOny3 04-09-2012 02:06 PM

OH you want PROJECTORS. Projectors and HIDS are two different things. Pm'd you about what i can do for retrofitting.

Skirmich 04-09-2012 04:31 PM

Most older cars with HIDs didnt come out with Projectors Instead they used a Modified Reflector Headlight to use the HID bulbs!

To use Projectors you will need to do a retrofit.

The TL HAS hid's. The inner lightbulb is high beams. They are standard halogens. The one next to it is the low beam. That is HID. What you posted is a picture of a headlight with a Projector head light. In order to have a projector you have to retrofit one in.

victus1 04-09-2012 10:57 PM

Just curious....are there any aftermarket projector headlights that are a standard fit for the TL?

xtremex626 04-10-2012 04:32 PM

do the job once and do it right the first time. i always take my front bumper off everytime i deal with the headlights. it takes longer but it ensures that you have the bulb put in and secured correctly. doing it from the back of the headlight is like doing a half ass job because half the time you can't even see what you're doing.

 you cant tell that its in correctly while its in the car??? If you are unsure grab your wife's/Girlfriends makeup mirror and stick it down and look. There is more than enough room to make sure its in correctly :2cents:

one quick question

Why my HID(low beam) will appear white when I first switch on, after a while, say 1mins, it becomes yellowish?

No need To, You can tell by touch that the HID Bulb is Secured in Place.. If it Giggles (Loose) If it Stays Tight (Secured).

Really Easy IMO.

Where can I find a D2R or Philips ballasts? Since I will be upgrading to 8k bulbs on stock ballasts and the ballasts are a little bit rusted for some reason

8k would be a down grade, not an upgrade. If the ballasts are still working there would be no reason to change them.

Jesus, 8k would make your car look terrible. It's a 10 year old Acura, not a riced out mustang.

Go with 6k. Most people will tell you to stick with 4.3k, but I think 6k looks good without being obnoxious.

3.2TLc 01-03-2013 03:25 PM

Hid.....?

Hey AcraAdi93, anything over 6K is useless,IMO. 5K is the best choice if you're looking for a bright white lamp.

But, if ya wanna do blue, that's up to U.

If the ballasts are showing signs of rust.....check for moisture, as it will eventually cause issues with the components and connections. It may be a good time to consider upgrading to the newer water-resistant units available from our vendors.

AcraAdi93 01-03-2013 04:55 PM

The ballasts probably haven't been replaced in ages. My TL-S was bought off a woman in her mid 30s so knowing that she has no clue about lightning. Im tired of 5k that's stock on our cars. It looks too white. 6k is something I would get

White is what helps you see, Not shades of Blue. And unless they dont work there really isnt a need to replace the ballasts.

AcraAdi93 01-03-2013 06:27 PM

I barely see with the stock kit around my area that's the thing tho plus it looks awkward with blackedout headlights in my opinion

Changing to a higher K will only make visibility worse. Dont know why it would look awkward with blacked out headlights.

3.2TLc 01-04-2013 09:37 AM

Is it possible that by altering the original headlamps with the"blacked out" mod, in turn caused you to "barely" be able to see with the stock HID's ?

For the most part, our OEM stock headlamps were top notch lighting back in the day they rolled off the assembly line. The newer LED's seem to be the trend now, but I'm unsure if they offer any advantage over the HID system which Acura put on our TL's.

As Fsttyms1 previously stated, ya could end seeing even worse !!!!!
