Changing color of headlights...
Changing color of headlights...
Ok so I'm sure alot have done this, I wanna change my headlights to purple, I know eBay sells some kits for like 80 bucks but was wondering if anyone has gone through this and has any suggestions on this, tks
I think what Karanx is trying to say is:
DONT DO THAT!!!!
PURPLE!? lol
PURPLE?
purple is rice.
Not to mention the benefits you lose from going from a 4300k bulb to an 8000k bulb.
the higher the scale on the kelvin model, the more purple color you get; but with LOTS LESS LIGHT.
so, if you dont mind not being able to see at night while its raining, go ahead and order those ricer bulbs.
PLUS not to mention; it just looks ugly.
PURPLE!??!?!?

^then go ahead and order them!!!
but dont get offended when people, like Karanx and myself point out the bad points.
as we already know that its going to turn out bad.
ebay + purple lights = disaster!!!

Either way most think its a dumb idea, you asked a question on a public internet forum and will have to deal with the negativity.
And any more name calling will get people a little time off! Keep it civil.

I could not Resist; 8000K is not Purple ROFL...
The Number your Looking for is 30,000K
Which has around 15 feet light output only and Its Completely Illegal not for its Color more for how much Useless it is as a Light Source... I believe Halogen Handflash lights got more Output than 30K in Comparison SMD Flashlights are more HIDs than 30K...ohh and BTW I hated my MonteCarlo SS 2005 (My Mistake into Believing all MCs where RWD)...

it is not legal in california at all:
"25950. This section applies to the color of lamps and to any
reflector exhibiting or reflecting perceptible light of 0.05 candela
or more per foot-candle of incident illumination. Unless provided
otherwise, the color of lamps and reflectors upon a vehicle shall be
as follows:
(a) The emitted light from all lamps and the reflected light from
all reflectors, visible from in front of a vehicle, shall be white or
yellow, except as follows:
(1) Rear side marker lamps required by Section 25100 may show red
to the front.
(2) The color of foglamps described in Section 24403 may be in the
color spectrum from white to yellow. (3) An illuminating device, as permitted under Section 24255,
shall emit radiation predominantly in the infrared region of the
electromagnetic spectrum. Any incidental visible light projecting to
the front of the vehicle shall be predominantly yellow to white.
Any incidental visible light projecting to the rear of the vehicle
shall be predominantly red. Any incidental visible light from an
illuminating device, as permitted under Section 24255, shall not
resemble any other required or permitted lighting device or official
traffic control device.
(b) The emitted light from all lamps and the reflected light from
all reflectors, visible from the rear of a vehicle, shall be red
except as follows:
(1) Stoplamps on vehicles manufactured before January 1, 1979, may
show yellow to the rear.
(2) Turn signal lamps may show yellow to the rear.
(3) Front side marker lamps required by Section 25100 may show
yellow to the rear.
(4) Backup lamps shall show white to the rear.
(5) The rearward facing portion of a front-mounted double-faced
turn signal lamp may show amber to the rear while the headlamps or
parking lamps are lighted, if the intensity of the light emitted is
not greater than the parking lamps and the turn signal function is
not impaired.
(6) A reflector meeting the requirements of, and installed in
accordance with, Section 24611 shall be red or white, or both.
(c) All lamps and reflectors visible from the front, sides, or
rear of a vehicle, except headlamps, may have any unlighted color,
provided the emitted light from all lamps or reflected light from all
reflectors complies with the required color. Except for backup
lamps, the entire effective projected luminous area of lamps visible
from the rear or mounted on the sides near the rear of a vehicle
shall be covered by an inner lens of the required color when the
unlighted color differs from the required emitted light color.
Taillamps, stoplamps, and turn signal lamps that are visible to the
rear may be white when unlighted on vehicles manufactured before
January 1, 1974. "
I even have friends who have been pulled over and ticketed for even having some blue show.
or if you need a conversion kit, it's about 35 bucks with bulbs included. they're on ebay and are called Xentec. i've used 3 of these kits on three different cars. they are all lasting and performing wonderfully.
You should read up a little on texas laws
, there are no longer any headlight aiming requirements for inspection since the 90s in Texas. There are only laws for headlight height and distance they must illuminate (150 ft). They cannot be red in color and they must be functional and condensation free. This makes it perfectly legal to use HIDs that are blinding other motorists on high beam since all HID set ups in halogen reflector housings do this when adjusted to give the driver a good view of the road ahead. They can be as bright as you want, any color temperature as you want, and as blinding as you want ON HIGH BEAM. There are no TEXAS LAWS preventing use if adjusted correctly and only federal laws preventing sale for street use. The only statute that covers aiming states your low beams must illuminate at 150 feet minimum and not project the high intensity portion of the beam into oncoming driver's eyes. This only applies to the low beams.

xentec dont do it! lol
I have a xentec kit the only problem I have is the output. My 5k bulbs look 6k and my OEM kit is 3times stronger. I still have the xentec kit in my car. Are the hid extra kits as good as oem cause I'm looking to buy a new kit.

I was under the impression that stock bulbs ran 4600k. Looking at the chart, this would mean stock bulbs are amber? I also recall the farthest visible light is around 5k. Is this correct?
Stock Lights are Indeed Amber... Amber is Hell lot more Noticeable in our Headlights than other makers using Projectors which Gives a Whiter Tone from the Projectors not becouse they use Different KV.
And No. The King of Lm Output is 3200KV (Yellow) becouse Yellow doesnt blend in Darkroads.

Since I'm too lazy to do my own research, any one wanna tell me if this is legal in ON Canada? I saw this guy a couple years back on a provincially patrolled highway.

I believe it was a 240.. which is a shame but unfortunately typical.
P.S I'm in no way interested in this, just curious :p
