As you can see I am new to Acuras. Silly? What does HFP stand for? I know it is a wheel manufacturer and I see alot of folks running that brand of wheel on here, but wasn't sure what is so great about it.

CJITTY - they fit the same as the stockies - I didn't notice a difference at all on fitment. Swing up my way this weekend to take a look for yourself.

Did you have the brake fluid flushed? Is that what you mean by serviced?
That REALLY NEEDS to be done EVERY year!!!
acura says starting at year 3, so we are well past that~

Hey man, that may just work, i'll hit you up on PM or email.

5Daddy and JJasha: Yes, HFP stands for Honda Factory Performance, so my wheels are OEM but came out for the 2008/2009 Accord Coupes. I think I'm the first one to get these on a 2nd Gen TL..at least with pics and such lol..perhaps my only claim to fame..muhaahahaha

I replaced my brake pads and had the brake fluids flushed, so now the laziness is just going to keep me from pulling everything off again.

I just received my left & right Legend calipers today. They will be installed tomorrow. Overall, I am impressed with the 'duel pistion' configuration, and the remanufactured parts look brand new. I will post my impressions when I complete the install. I have to get them on the car and tested so that I can get the cores credited to my card before my billing cycle ends in 3 days.

Sorry, no pictures since I don't have access to a digi-cam.

Installed these new calipers today and there is a noticable improvement in stopping. These will help manage the additional weight of the S/C at the front of the car. The old calipers had 101K on them and the rubber around the single plungers had begun to display obvious wear.

All pins/rubber and retainers were transferred to the CL mount and new calipers with no issues. In addition, remove the retainer at the top of the new caliper (the old calipers did not have them) that woud appear to rest on the top of the pads once the caliper is lowered and fastened into position. They will scrape along the outer edge of the rotor as it spins.

I primed the calipers with brake fluid as 01tl4tl suggested and the bleed process was a breeze.

Dropped off the old calipers at an Advance Auto store and they promptly applied the credits for the cores with no questions.

Overall, this was a worth while upgrade and would recommend it to those with high mileage vehicles and deteriorating calipers.

I dont think you really paid $32.04 per caliper. The core cost is an additional $30 you pay ane when you return the old core you're simply getting that $30 back

cant bolt the 6mt brakes on a gen3 tl, let alone our car-
BBK= a $1200 upgrade involving steering knuckles and brackets and lines and new wheels to clear the 1 inch larger diameter rotors and giant calipers

CORE charge is an extra fee on top of the stated parts price--
you pay to guarantee you bring back an old one, for them to have rebuilt and sell to the next person

Parts stores have no problem accepting an 01 caliper in exchange- to them its more valuable and sellable item than a part for a 95 is! good thing for us~

caliper core!! I replied, and credit was issued
When you send stuff to a place that may know the differance- you run the risk of losing the core charge-
but hey- they never specified i had to bring them a ~legend caliper~--

these arent from a legend!! you mean somebody stole my good brakes and put these on instead!!!!

Use ALL TL parts except the caliper itself

The rotors-pads- main bracket- all are from the TL- the brake lines are TL if you install SS lines- which I did with the caliper install
Just install the calipers opposite of marking the big R goes on driver side and L on passenfer side so the bleeders sit on top-

the rear calipers do not have an upgrade- the same/nearly the same/exact caliper is used on nearly every honda and acura made for over 2 decades!
By getting more brake torque in front, the car stops much better

You will quickly be back here praising the newfound abilties to slow and stop extremely fast and very late~

Has anyone done any stop distance testing on this 'upgrade'? I'm a little sceptical, if the pad size stays the same, why would this set up be any better? I'm thinking the pressure on the stock TL piston & pad would be equal to the pressure on the Legend two piston set up, especially since we're using a TL pad? Maybe I'm missing something?

you are missing something- the increased brake pressure area by 2 pistons having more surface pushing area on the pad, puts greater effort (brake torque) to the pad, and the outside of the caliper has 3 fingers instead of 2- so more effective holding against the pad during pressure cycle (brakes on)

Dont believe any of us who have done this mod to our TL- we are all under the exact same delusion~
Your brakes are fine!!!

Plus most of us with this mod have already upped the rotors and pads from stock, and were looking for a bit more braking without much expense.
Where was it found?- in the caliper honda used on the nsx and legend- before they counted every penny on manufacturing cost

Did you read the thread or just look at the pretty pictures? It has been posted in this thread where, what, and how much. I bought mine from RockAuto.com, but can be found at local parts stores. I chose the Raybestos re-man units - there are many choices on the website - use these parts numbers:

FRC10627
FRC10628

And jbrace, you can take our word for it or not, but the caliper pressure is more even and braking is a little more progressive now according to my very expensive and experienced butt dyno.

Meet me at the real racetrack- at the 5 marker- we both go max effort braking.
I will stopped as you try to gather it up before going straight off into the dirt with ABS pumping~

Next corner, we see who can brake later...
You will be seeing a lot of the back of my car- going into the distance towards the next corner after flying past you and braking 2 markers later- stealing the line, nailing the apex, and off to the next braking point!!

Want to have real braking fun in a TL???, drop $1500 on 1 inch diameter larger rotors and 6 piston calipers!

The legend pistons are on 1 side of the caliper- once you go to 4 or 6, its both halves of the caliper are active pressure points in braking. Instead of normal brakes- where the caliper is actually in sideways motion when you apply the brakes-pulling the outer side in against the outer pad, the middle- 3rd finger is beneficial here to spread the pressure across the pad face
Thats why it has slider pins inside those rubber boots! The brakes are in motion n several directions when in use--check it out!!

Lots of street motorcycles have been using pistons on both sides of the rotors for years.

yeah, but it is a different design, and not really applicable on stock calipers / rotors. we can buy aftermarket kits that are designed this way though.....

Thanks guys. Don't get me wrong, I really appreciate your expertise on this, and especially FirePR2002's expensive butt dyno. I got mine at Wal-Mart for $9.95.

Seriously though, if I was looking to switch to Legend calipers, ss lines and new rotors+pads, is this a job I could manage to do on my own, or should I sign up for auto-mechanic school today (crap I think classes already started...)?

I did the work myself and I'm a certified shade-tree mechanic (at best). There are DIYs on here for rotors - calipers are easy as well.

the SS lines just require a special brake line wrench for the fitting, where it connects to the cars solid metal tube- parts stores sell it,
and a friend to help bleed the brakes!

See the DIY section for several versions of the same job- some better than others
Proper greasing at all contact points is important

I suggest buying a $3 oil squirt can- fill it with fresh brake fluid and fill the new calipers as able-- before install
That protects the rubber o-rings and cuts down on air you would have to flush out.

I replaced mine on the 01 because the fluid had not been changed in 5+ years, and there was caliper damage as a result
So taking no chances after all the upgrades to go fast and turn better-
spent 100 bucks for a brand new Master Cyl with new cap!
Pedal feels better after- so I guess it really was weak

There are no other mods to the MC

you can even order and pick them up at the local store- go in person to the store to order- pay them. Gets there in 1-2 days at no extra charge to you
That saves you shipping charges, and the 2 weeks it takes to process and ship the order

Just take printout from website to ensure price match. Never know what their store computer may try to charge!

And yes, IF you ordered online, you can return the old ones to the store for credit back to your card.
They are happy to get the TL calipers, as they are more sellable than legend calipers, a lot more TLs on the road today...

This could be region specific. The Advance Auto Parts store here told me they don't deal in Raybestos calipers.

just have them use the part numbers to cross referance to what brand they sell
That will still net the correct calipers- there are 3-4 major supplier names everyone buys from.
