Best Trunk CD changer
I bought a Clarion DCZ625 changer and use a fiber optic cable to connect it to my clarion HU.
Here is the side mount view. The installer made a box to hide it per my request.

Here is the front view and mounted where the OEM DVD navigation unit would be.

Here it is open.

Are you using the OEM HU or an aftermarket?

i would recommend getting the alpine 6-disc changer (CHA-S634 or something like that) with mp3 capability. it's not that expensive and will hook right up. the shock protection is outstanding too. obviously you won't be able to view the titles, but you should be able to play the mp3s.....i think.....i know the decoder is in the changer itself, because i had it on a non-mp3 head unit originally.

just checked online - a new ipod is $300 at best buy (not including downloads), and a 12 disc JVC changer or 6 disc alpine is about $180. personally for me it's a no brainer since my phone allready plays mp3s. i would have no other use for an ipod anyway.

Another reason is the sound quality. Ipods are good for storing low bitrate music so you can listen for hours while you are away from a sound system like while jogging, on the plane, bus, etc. To me that is where their use ends.

besides, like i said, my phone plays mp3s and i have a 1gig memory card in it with tv shows and movies and music. i don't really need an ipod to replace it ::shrugs::

CDs to an iPod. No need to download music. ::cough:: :
:iPods are priced from $150 to $400.
There is no comparison with playing mp3s on a phone with an iPod.
A CD changer in the trunk is like having a Beta Max player at home. The IPOD is the way to go. I have a 30g IPOD that will hold more music then I will ever own. As of now I have 1400+ songs on it and I have only used like 5g of its memory. That means I have 25g left to use. I have not paid one penny for the music on it. I rip songs off my CD's and I get songs free on limewire.com. There is no more CD binders in my interior or cd's on my visors everything is on the Ipod and the sound quality is awesome. Because I have the factory system in my TL I use a cassette adapter to play the music. It's much neater and there is no stopping the car to change cd's that are in the trunk, it's all in the palm of your hand.
Yes I have listened to an ipod before. When I say bit rate I am talking about the amount of data "bits" per second the music is ripped at. mp3's are usually ripped at 128-160kbps and are considered lossy. Most music before it's ripped varies, but it's usually between 800kbps and up. That is why whenever I rip any music I use lossless codec like monkeys audio, flac, or ogg to my HD. Anyway the higher the bitrate the more room it takes up.
As far as comparing a cd changer to a beta max is obsurd and bty beta was far superior to vhs yet people still picked vhs. Ipods are portable players that act as a small HU. You can not compare it to a cd player. Once the DVD war between blue ray and hd dvd is over, music will convert over to dvd format not ipod.

yeah ipods range in price, my cousin has a nano, great little thing, but a 6 disc mp3 changer will hold more than a nano for the same price. plus whats the point of getting an ipod shuffle for $100 when you're not going to be able to play videos on it or anything? especially since you can get other mp3 players for cheaper.
my phone sounds about as good as an ipod (as long as i use quality headphones), and considering i'm only an "occasional" user (as far as wanting to listen to mp3s somewhere other than my car or at my computer desk) then it would still be a waste of money for someone like me to buy an ipod.
don't push an ipod on the guy if he doesn't want it guys. some people have no use for them. like i said, they're great toys, just not for everyone. alot of people don't like having to unplug it and recharge it, or allready are using their power ports for something else, etc. etc.

I did not mean to insult anybody. I was just making a comparison. Who am I to tell somebody what to do with their car. If a person wants a CD changer in the trunk then they should have a CD changer in the trunk. I know that Alpine makes the changers for Honda and Acura and we have no problem with them. I called the company that does all of our aftermarket installs and he said that the standard Alpine units work very well with the factory units. I hope this helped.
Ohhhhhhh nooooooooo buddy...Not taken as an insult at all
, all the input you guys give is very helpful, I was just being a smart @ss.......I own an IPOD myself but I really want to do the cd changer because I have a lot of old custom cd's I've done and yes most of the music is on my ipod but I like the order I put all the music in each specific CD, but the IPOD is definitely cool...............

no problem dude, we're just talking. no one's insulted or fighting. that's one of the good things about this board. we generally respect eachother's opinions and can speak freely without fear of getting flamed (except when it comes to ricing out your tl
