Air intake upgrade?

I asked the people who did my alloy wheels what a relatively inexpensive upgrade would be to my car and they suggested an air intake. They said it's about $150, and could add around 7-10hp.

Any thoughts as to this upgrade, and which intakes would be best? Thanks in advance for your suggestions.

first of all, if you're getting an intake YOU HAVE TO GO WITH A COLD AIR PLEASE!! don't cheap out and get some cheap ass ebay intake like some have and it doesn't even fit well. invest in a cold air. you'll be happy you did.

second, an intake will not add 7-10hp to your car. it will be throaty at WOT, but you'll realistically only get ~5hp, if that. many people mistaken sound for power.

do a quick search and you'll get a ton of hits.

intake is more for sound then anything. If you are looking for power you are going to have to spend $300-400.

The two best power upgrades are headers and the unorthodox underdrive pulley.

The pulley will give you around 5-10whp throughout the power band. You will also rev faster.

Pulley's are around $175-200 plus you need new belts aroudn $60...then installation which is probly $100 at a performance shop

Headers are $120-135 shipped. Then you need to buy new screws/nuts/washers for $10....then new oem gaskets for $40....then installation. I got mine installed for $175

I just installed XS headers, you don't need to buy new gaskets. You can reuse OEM.

Some might need to be replaced but you will probably be fine.

do the FREE !!!!!
Intake Resonator box removal, and install a K&N air filter- 50 bucks
see DIY section for instructions- simple to remove bumper cover- remove bolt- maybe 2 bolts holding box on- it attaches to the bottem of the stock air filter box and all the air had to go thru it to get to the filter- so now you have a large space for air storage and the engine to freely draw air from
