yeah bought on ebay shipped from a junkyard in Oregon. yes, i have a navi, but you could apply the same idea to a similarly sized tablet. just mount it to the front of the navi panel, not on the inside like the OP has done. my navi is attached with heavy duty velcro so it is easily removable, but also stays in place when driving aggressively.

it doesn't look pretty with it removed, but i'll try to remember to take pics on my morning commute tomorrow. i explained in another similar thread that if i were to continue putting in time to the TL, i would make a nice mount out of carbon fiber. but my focus has shifted to another vehicle.

Suspense is killing me! Fedex came to deliver the dash but I wasn't home. I did pick up the galaxy tab today at microcenter for $179

Ok so basically here's my issue. I live around thieves. Petty ass thieves. Broke into the TL for a lighter, car charger, and some roaches. All my mods have been performance pretty much because of this issue. To do this mod it's gotta come out easy enough for me to take it out everytime and never leave it. Here's the idea I came up with. Basically the plan is to take a hard cover for the tablet and mold it into the dash. I searche and found a case I think will work and now just gotta make it. Weather is making it cold in my work area so progress gonna be kinda slow on this one. Here's a few pics to kinda show what I got.

Here's the case:

Here's some pics of it just placed on top of then behind dash:

My main issue right now is getting it from the case everytime. Either I gotta notch the dash and the case finger size to get behind it cause its a tight fit into the case. Maybe a ribbon behind it like right battery compartments on electronics. Any ideas? Eject button somehow?

I love that idea! What tablet are you going to use?

First thing I thought of if you can make it work is to have one of these handy: http://www.amazon.com/s/ref=nb_sb_ss...em%2Caps%2C323

If you have the hardcover securely mounted to the dash and have a dash removal tool to get the tablet out, i think it will work. Thoughts?

So I got my dash today and I think the only way it looks good is with the tablet mounted behind the dash.

I have that panel tool already but I was hoping my end result was something a bit more high tech. Maybe an actuator to pop it out like an eject button or something along those lines. I'd rather not pry it out because if its painted I'd be looking at scratching and damaging that. I'm looking for some/a small 12 volt actuator to do the job. Then pop a hole in that case and attach the actuator and wire that thing up.

Those with tablets already installed: how are you getting audio?

I'm thinking of getting the blitzsafe adapter and hooking up a Bluetooth to it so I can stream Bluetooth from the tablet to my factory head unit. Thoughts?

FM transmitters are horrible dude. U may wanna reconsider unless you're using the aux port but that's a lotta wires showing.

It was just an option. My original idea was to get the blitzsafe aux and a Bluetooth music reciever. It depends if I install the tablet behind the dash or not. At this point, I'll prob install behind for a cleaner look.

Wow! This thread has just inspired me. I think I figured out how to get full fan speed control for those who are backing out of this mod due to the "no real fan speed control". You will need your old none navi climate control unit and source out another connector that goes in the back of the unit and just tap into the current climate control connector. Then un some wires to the glove box and place the none navi bezel in the glove box (you could make a nice little custom bracket if you'd like). The only down fall would be that to lower/raise the speed or chance the position of where you want the air to come from you would need to change it from the glove box, but at east you'll have full function of all climate controls.

So i haven't been on here for a while, so i thought i could share some updates. I have upgraded the tablet to Jelly Bean, and have gave up on Car Home Ultra.I have just setup a simple desktop now, I switched to a live wallpaper that shows artist/song info right on the home screen, it also show a EQ type display that moves with the music. Also I added a pair of media buttons to be able to skip songs or pause the music. Here is a shot of the new setup...

I have the USA Spec Ipod adapter, i was using it with my iphone before the tablet. I just ran 3.5mm to Rca cord right to the adapter.

Tasker seems very overwhelming at first, but just dive in and play with it. I have a very basic power profile for turning on the display and wifi/bluetooth. It also pauses the music on shutdown, and set to play music on start up. I also setup a task cut to set media volume to max since i can't access my tablet volume controls. I just set tablet to max and adjust to sound using the stock radio volume control.

For future additions i'm currently working on a modified ps3 controller for a Tsx steering wheel, allowing for me to switch tracks from the steering wheel. Also adding a big hard drive for music videos and movies to be available for passengers to view.

Hi folks,

I am looking to tackle this mod, or something similar. Any updates? Has anyone put in any new work?

Two questions.

1. Is the dash bezel for a 99, the same as 00-03?
2. Any suggestions for a 7 inch screen to install to mirror what shows up on my phone?

you have couple options....

either tap a wire in the fuse#32 on the driver side footwell....this is IGN, so the minute you insert the key and turn on IGN, the wire is HOT...

second option is, IF you are taking the dash apart, tap into the RADIO POWER wire...again, 2 options here, IGN and ALWAYS HOT....if you wire it in the ALWAYS HOT, you run the chance of running your battery dead if the accessory is sucking power....

I recommend option 1 since you dont want any white noise coming from the radio/amp setup....

Dash is completely apart so I would rather tap into the radio IGN. Which wire is it?

^^^ the radio has 3 big wires (depending on model and years the color changes)

these 3 are thicker than the other wires....the black is obviously ground....

take a multimeter to the other 2 wires with the key out of the car....1 will have voltage, the other will not....the one which does not is your IGN wire.....

just to check, put the key in and turn the car to IGN (do not start her up), the other wire should now have 12V....
