2003 Acura TL - Resonator Chamber

The other day I was changing my air filter and noticed that there was something missing under it. I could look str8 to the ground after the air filter was removed. Dealer told me that the part missing is called a resonator chamber.

My car seems to drive fine and don't really feel like it's a bad thing that it is missing, but I'm sure that it will be a problem in time. I'm just curious as to what the purpose of the resonator chamber is. What does it do for my vehicle, and will I notice a big difference once I get it installed. Also I believe that part was ripped off while driving on the highway. Story behind that is that a piece of tire tread ripped off from a diesel truck. Went under my car. The splash guard is dangling so I had to use string to hold it up on the left side and some clips are missing in the middle. Also my LEFT wheel well fender was ripped off. SO... I assume that when that happend, the resonator chamber must have been ripped off with all of that. I'm not sure though. I purchased the vehicle not too long ago and maybe it was never there when I got it. So kinda hard to point the finger as to how this resonator chamber became missing.

Thank you for the feedback!!

Also I forgot to ask if anybody has a video of how to install the resonator chamber? Is it easy to install? I want to purchase the part from the dealer, but I'd rather install it myself, I'm broke lol I can't afford to have someone install it for me. It seems like it wouldn't be too hard to do myself. Thank you!

Dont worry you dont need the chamber! ITS actually a common DIY mod here, to remove it. Gets more air in through your filter if you still have the stock box! Gives it a nice growl also, keep it as is! It couldnt have ripped off due to the tire shred, the chamber is pretty damn big, you'll notice it. Also its bolted directly to the car.

dont waste your money on the res chamber. Its not vital or needed. All it does is quiet the intake noise under wot

Is it true that the res chamber can also help with gas mileage?

Also since i hav no res chamber or left wheel well fender ive been told that driving in the rain is not a good idea cuz water could get sucked into my engine from the hole under the air filter box. How true is this?

Only true if you plan on parking in a lake.

Not true. Its ONLY function is for sound reduction.

Of all the things I would recommend, I would recommended running fender liners. They serve many purposes and I personally wouldn't drive without them.

Get the Inner Fender Wheel!!! In the Rain makes a Real Mess under the Unprotected Area.... It cost around 49 Bucks at NAP. A little more Expensive at Dealer.
