09 Intake on a 2nd Gen TL-S

I read that an 09 intake manifold will fit on 2nd Gen TL-S. Is that correct? P2R makes an adapter that allows a J32A2 throttle body to fit to an 09 TL SH-AWD intake manifold that normally goes on a 3.7L engine. So I assume that means that the IM will just bolt-on to a J32A2 engine (i.e., 02-03 Type-S). Is that right? Here's a link to the adapter at powerrevracing.

If you look at the pic, I'm guessing they are selling the TB spacer and the silverish-gray wrap around piece, and the actual intake is the dullish-gray piece in the middle which they are not selling. I have found an 09 IM for a 3.7L, and it says upper, but there is also a lower IM that I'm guessing would not be necessary???

Lots to digest, so any help would be appreciated.

you need the intake manifold and the top plate, part numbers should be in the threads above

Thanks, DC. I finally stumbled across those threads in the CL section by doing a Google search on the web...go figure. And those threads are looooong.

There seems to remain a question about the actual gains from the mod. Readers were wanting dyno charts, and the DIYers didn't have them; actually one guy did, but had compression problems, so not indicative of real results; another guy said he was doing 4.7 sec 0-60, but that was challenged by the readers, and everybody got pissed-off. Also, as I recall, both of them had base models, not type-S. Although it's a pretty easy bolt-on, there are some vacuum hose issues to deal with, an EGR issue which throws a code, and a wiring issue. They found workarounds for all of these, but not exactly p&p. Biggest cost is the 09 IM and plate (total about $350), and since the 09 cars are so new, obtaining the IM takes time due to short supply. These guys were also getting different TB (extra $250 or so), but I don't think a type-s would need to do that.

Probably won't be my first mod of choice, but maybe someday. I'll start with CAI, headers, thermal gaskets/spacers, UR crank pulley, and go from there. And none of this will happen quickly. Patience, grasshopper.

first of all i'd like to congratulate you on being the best noob ive ever seen, they never read through long ass threads. congrats

you did miss a couple things though, they both were type S's, e30cabrio is an auto, civicdrivr is 6 speed. this hasnt been done on a base on this forum yet.

and they got their type s throttle bodies bored to 71mm, the intake bore is 80mm :what:

Thanks...not my first rodeo ;) I felt kind of silly posting my question when it had basically already been addressed, albeit in another section. I remember you were one of the 'challengers' of the 4.7 0-60. I don't want to choose sides, but a time that fast is quite a statement, and measured with an iPhone app??? I'm not sure how that would even work. An OBDII connection? Bluetooth?

If I remember correctly from the thread, they (at least maybe e30cabrio) got new/reman bored TBs for about $250, and received a core charge for their old ones. That's a lot of extra money for the mod, and I'm not sure that part was worth it.

Did you, or are you, going to do it?

I plan on doing it.. I will also make sure to get before and after dyno runs too

DC3328 02-14-2010 12:37 AM

i will eventually along with a whole port and polish but i need to scrounge up the money for that :ugh:

and gfrg88 is gettin dyno numbers on a good engine :woot:

gfrg88 02-14-2010 12:29 PM

I'm getting numbers for the mdx spacer this weekend.. And then I'm gonna try to get numbers for the 09 IM next month

And then after that, I should surprise everyone with what I'm doing next :ninja:
