03 TL Projector/CCFL Headlights Project
Well here it is fellas, the sequel to my 00 TL projector retrofit.
00 TL Retro
Ingredients
03 TL headlights
S2000 Clear lensed projectors
BMW E46 CCFL Halo rings
Osram 4300 K D2S OEM Bulbs
FX45 Bezels (Still a may be)
Again there will be plenty of pictures as updates come along. Shrouds will be a decision that can change depending on what works out better. I am still contemplating as to what route to go with, leave it chrome or black it out and leave the indicator and parking light area chrome. The CCFLs shine very bright so may be i'll black it out plus the car is grey (dont know the exact color name) so blacked out lights would look good IMO.
Here are pictures of the ingredients and today's progress
All the ingredients
The Headlights
The Bulbs
CCFL Rings
S2K Projectors
Before opening the headlights make sure that these lil hold down tabs are moved up so you dont brake them while prying the headlights open
Left headlight all opened up
Right headlight all opened up
These three pictures are to give you guys an idea as to how the CCFL rings would look .
Probably the craziest idea ever . Infiniti Q45 projectors in the 2nd Gen TL. These are the biggest projectors on the market as we speak. Here is a picture to show how big they are compared to the tiny TSX projectors.
And here is this monstrosity in the tiny TL headlight. Its not impossible to retrofit them in there from where i see but wow is it going to be a tight fit . May be some day i'll try it just for the heck of it but now lets just stick to the S2ks.

Overkill!!
Here is the next project, overkill of all overkills .
I already have the quad projector set up but the next step is to install projectors in the 02 TL fogs.
Here is the set up, when i bought my TL the fogs were cracked and all rotted out. I replaced them with new ones but kept the old ones just in case. So here they are all cleaned up and ready for a retrofit . The projectors are rare and are very small but still a bit big for the TLs fogs which are only an inch or so high, but i'll make them fit . Also these take 9006 bulbs, same as the TL fog bulbs, so the current HID kit that i have in my fogs will be going in the projectors.
Talk about overkill, having 6 HID projectors to light up the road at night.

I looked at the following
Ford fusion projectors
Nissan maxima fogs (04-06 model).
Blazer aftermarket fogs etc
These ones are from a Lexus RX300 (2001) and the important thing is that these take 9006 bulbs rather than usual H3s found in most fogs.
here is a picture of H3 bulb using Maxima fogs

^^ These are the same fogs found in th first gen Lexus IS 300, the only difference is that these have a clear lens rather than the yellow one found on the lexus . I may run 3000K HID bulbs in the fogs.

i dunno jnc, that setup doesnt look too good.
The halos are way too much IMO...they straight up look ghetto rigged, you can see the top bracket and its not appealing. Somethings just dont belong on hondas. Its like me slapping a few bmw logos on my honda rims.
Other than that the retro approach is good ... The TL headlight is just terrible to work with. The best way is to just cf the whole thing and start from scratch.
My suggestion is to remove the halo rings, or at least get completely round ones. IF you leave it without the halos and just have the grey and black contrast it would look much better and hide the ugly TL headlight with its square and round design. The blackout was a good idea to hide the low beam rectangle but the halos i dunno..... i didnt expect it from Jnc.
Im gonna be retrofitting an 02+ TL and im def staying away from halos, plus u know me and how i love chrome. Maybe this retro looks better on the car.
Any output shots of the retro?

Hey hey hey, another fellow HIDoholic .
Yeah i know what you mean but thats what the guy wants.
In my retro I will be covering the top part with SSM eyelids and they will cover the jagged edged top of the halos that you see. Mine would go on the car in a couple of weeks after I get a new front lip and bumper painted due to a recent damage to it.
Totally round Halos didnt appeal to me when i was opting for them, the horse shoe of these did though. Lets see how they turn out on the car. More pictures to follow next month.

jnc, for the cracked fog light lense, did you purchase lexan to replace it? Mine is cracked too, I need to replace mine.
how come no wall shots for the quad setup? i wanna see how well they are alligned.

i c... makes more sense now Jnc... i was gonna say LOL
Im going for a quad setup for a retro and i will be using a flat shield for the inner units so that there are only 2 main steps.
Its on a 94+ teg with ebay lights.
4 steps look ok ... but 2 keeps the stock look from the inside, just insane amounts of light when the 4 are all on HEHHE.

Got a lot of work done over the last week, have been taking pictures every now and then but not in as much detail as I did in my last retro.
The projectors
Here are the reflectors, roughly hacked for fitment.
Testing the brackets and other mounting hardware.
Checking for clearance in the headlight.
Paint time .
I'll be molding ABS plastic around the projector to cover it up and also will use AP2 S2K bezels.
ABS plastic
AP2 S2K Bezel.
Projector mounted to reflector, adjusting it to make sure the high beam sets perfect.
Some adjustment and PERFECT . Rotational adjustment will be done when the headlights are on the car.
This is the color that oncoming traffic will see at night .. These projectors are bone stock and were not modded to achive more color.
Projectors mounted and ready .
I threw the painted TL bezel on to show how the headlights will look.
And here is how it would look with the S2k bezels on.
Next step is to do the CCFL install and then mount the headlights on my car adjust them take them off, seal them and we are done .

Since everyone wants to know what these CCFLs would look like here is a rough idea.
the top line would be parallel, like so -------> ('''') ('''')
The set up, wires wont be visible once its done and so wont be the top part of the right ring.
Lights on..
Lights off, camera at normal exposure.
Lights off, camera at -2.0 exposure (minimum exposure) these suckers are BRIGHT.

Not to let the cat out of the bag but I have taken upon another project which I will finish up in a week or so. Lets just say that the projectors in that project are deemed not to fit the TL headlight but they will after i'll be done with them . No more clues on that project, I have started work on it already and am impatient myself to finish it. I am taking plenty of pictures, I believe so far I have taken about 30 pictures of that project alone . I'll start a new thread once its finished and installed so no one has to wait. MyTLiza (TSXbeauty) you have an idea about the project but I ask not to share that info since i want to bring it out when its done.
