Xenon flashing, copper did it to me!

I was driving along the back roads like usual (no ambiant light from anything but houses on the side and the stars) getting flashed by other drivers every once in a while like usual. One came up on me and flashed me while he was almost at my side, I looked over and it was a copper. You would think these guys would know the difference. I have heard war stories in the past about coppers pulling people over for Xenon lights and I beleive it.

It's probably a cop that has never seen HIDs before.

I just got pulled over last week!! He complained that my lights were too "blue" and I asked him if he had the official blue light measurer handy, which he didn't like too much... I told him they were stock and he didn't believe me, what a ****!

Hehe, I got pulled over twice so far for HID.... but damn, come to think of it.... Cops should be used to HID by now.... 2-3 years back, you probably see only couple cars with HID per day.... but now, in Vancouver, you see HID equipped car at least once very 3-5 min(mostly BMW 3-Series and TL)...

That's the nice thing about living in Johnson County in Kansas City, especially around Leawood (my last apartment). Everyone and his aunt has a HID-equipped luxury car. No problems with ignorant coppers pulling us over.

well, technically if you mod your car to have hid they could give you a ticket. and if your hid is too "bluish" they could give you a ticket as well.

i think that's total bs. what the hell is blue? i have never seen them to have any kind of standard at all. if i got pulled over for my hid, i am going to give some real sh8t to the cop. for starters my hid is stock and if he has to give out a ticket give it to acura. my tls is approved to be driven on the road around the US and it's 100% legal, if not 110%. sometimes cops are just so ridiculous, they talk like they are from pluto.

What if you have the HID "Imitation" bulbs? I got white with blueish tint bulbs can I get a ticket for that?

technically i think yes. i don't even know the real standard so i can't tell how blue is blue to the cops. but then i think it also depends on the mood of the officer and also what you are doing. like if you are driving at 90 then probably everything is blue to them.

It's not a felony, you just get a fix it ticket. I personally like the purplish tint, but most of the legal/DOT legal bulbs say it on the packaging. If the cop doesnt believe you show him the package, if he still doesnt listen ask for his supervisor.

Technically you can a ticket for not having OEM bulbs. There is a code on the outside of the lens that has to match the bulb in the reflector, therefore if you change your bulb to anything else you are in violation. Not only can you get a ticket, but also if you are in an accident you can be held liable.

As far as the "blue" thing goes for HIDs, there is an SAE specification that defines what white is. If a copper pulls you over an tells you that your lights are too blue you can tell him you would like him to prove that the color is out of specification. There is not one officer that carries around a color meter in his car so you should be off the hook. If he gives you a tick you can fight it in court and you WILL win!!!

As for the fake HIDs, the only Halogen that is any good is the Sylvania Silver Star. This is a bulb that is due out soon. Trust me on this; you will not be able to tell the difference with this bulb.

that cant be true...what happens if and when your OEM bulb goes out? that doesnt mean you have to buy another OEM bulb...you just go out to a car parts store and buy a replacement bulb.

That's right. As long as your bulb's specs falls within DOT legal limits, you can use any brand of bulb you want.

Andy, where did you get pulled over? I have no problems so far, and I've gone through at least 2-3 police road side check points (for D&D) so far. And I got my TL broshure in my trunk. If I ever get pulled over, I can show the copper that HID comes standard with the car. He can't argue about that.
