Wtf are they?

I just changed my rear motor mount this past weekend and I had to remove to metal blocks that sat next to the mount itself for clearance. Wtf are they there for? Some kind of counter balance or what? Does anybody have any insight to what they are? And what is their purpose??? Thanx

Those are Harmonic Absorbers designed to lower felt vibrations from the engine.

You wouldn't notice a difference if you removed them. Some people remove them just to lose the weight.

You 2G TL guys don't have it; however, there is a front bumper dynamic damper weight (#44) on the 2G CL's that is odd as well:

I saw a few at the junkyard yesterday and I was curious as well! Thanks for the replies fellas.
My 2G TL didn't originally come with one on the side motor mount, but the motor mount I pulled from the yard had one so I just went ahead and kept it on. I'll take a peak at my rear harmonic absorbers (lol) when I'm working on my rear mount eventually.
