Wow got headers. Hate my car.

Just got the DC Ceramic Headers put on. Power gains, I don't really feel them. The worst part of it all is the sound. I have a ATLP with XLR8 High Flow Cat and absolutely loved that sound it gave me and got compliments on it. Now with the DC headers, it sounds like I have a fart cannon. It's sad. I was a proud owner for 5 years and 4 months and it's been a great first car but I'm prolly gonna sell the car to a young'n who loves the fart cannon sound, like some of the kids do these days. Anyways folks, you have DC Headers? Like the sound?

I was going to get the Comptechs but the price difference is crazy and my "reasonable" friend talked me into just getting the DC's. Should have just went for the "best" like I always do.

Just sell the header to someone that likes the sound and through your stock header back on!

If you love the car enjoy it longer.

The headers aren't causing the problem with the sound it is the high flow cat. Not sure why you can't feel the difference Because I would sell my car before I drove it without headers. You could also try a different high flow cat. I have dc sport headers, magnaflow hfc, and comptech cat back. I have no rasp and it sounds good.

It's not the headers, it's definitely the cat. Maybe the headers made the exhaust loud enough to hear the cat, but the cat causes the rasp.

it's the HFC. never got around to installing mine when I had it but if you see the videos of the ATLP exhaust promo videos of the 2G.. that was with stock intake, XS-P headers, stock cat and the exhaust

Agree with all of them... Headers isn't the issue... Its the High Flow Cat...

Are you talking about rasp when you accelerate?

I have the same exhaust and cat as you (ATLP and XLR8), and when I put on my comptech headers that when I first heard the rasp. A little annoying, but since I learned to accept how loud the ATLP is, accepting the cat rasp was pretty easy.

If you can't stand it, change your cat and you should be good.

Idk guys. I've had the HFC and ATLP setup for a few months before I got the headers, and the sound was still fine. But then the headers. But yeah I prolly need to take em off and sell em and get that great sound back.

Did you even read my post? when you had stock headers the exhaust flow was low enough that you had no rasp from the high flow cat. The new headers opened up the flow allowing the hfc to rasp.

Just go back to your stock cat and see how it sounds. Compared to the headers, the hfc yields very little gains.

Oh, and you should verify whether you're talking about rasp when you stomp on it and not a hissing noise from leaks.

Get rid of the HFC and you will get rid of the sound issue. Or have an exhaust shop weld in a different resonator

It's the cat. I had DC headers first before any other exhaust mods. The XLR8 cat was the last thing I added and I have exact same setup as you. The XLR8 cat makes the raspy sound. I just deal with it. As far as can't tell a difference in power afterwards, you're crazy. The headers were the mod the gained the most HP by far out of everything I've done so far.

Well nobody wins actually... Turns out it was an exhaust leak and a gasket went bad. Changed a simple gasket last night, and the fart cannon sound is gone. Back to that nice deep tone. So keep up to date with ya gaskets lol.

Do the DC headers need a new heat shields? because mine are exposed and close to hoses and such.

Well in that case it was! Everybody got it right except you who blamed the Headers...
So how can we know it was a failing gasket if we aren't standing next to your car? And the sound from a leaking gasket its pretty obvious.. In any case well done finding the issue! And nope the headers don't need a shield..

Also from all the mods you could possibly done until today (Except Build or FI) Headers are the most power giving per dollar on the car.. If you cant feel the instant +20whp then something is really wrong with it.

Ha yeah well apparently exhaust leak sounds clicky like a clock and my purge solenoid valve is always clicking going crazy. Plus I've never had this issue, i'm still on my first car adventures, but now I know. But now once that fart cannon sound is gone. I can actually just pay attention to the headers instead of waiting for farts to come out my car. I love the DC Headers.

Thank you guys for the help.

headers actually have more influence on sound that you would think. just look subarus UEL vs EL header sounds. BIG BIG difference.
