Angry Windshield Crack

I got hit on the passenger side with a stone kicked up by an unidentified vehicle. It is the typical impact with three crack lines spreading out the size of a dime. Every windshield replacement that I have had in the passed has been frigged up with poor gasket replacement leading to water leaks or or wind noise. What do I need to do to get a PERFECT repair? Is this a repair job on the glass or glass replacement?

Good move...I had the same thing happen to my old car (93 Accord)...I needed to replace the windshield so I (stupidly) called the Honda dealer and they quoted me a ridiculous price, I think it was around $400 or so.

I looked through the yellow pages and under either "windows" or "glass" I found a place that came to YOU to replace the windshield. They did it for a little over $100 and did an excellent job...

Dealers in general are a bunch of leaches...

Repairing the actual glass has to be done ASAP for it to work... usually as soon as it happens it should be done.

Most likely... your gonna have to replace the glass... ask people at work or something where they got theirs done... find a good shop in the area.

If it is just a chip, then it is repairable. But if it is spreading like a spider web, then you will have to replace it. Around the Bay Area, there's a really good windshield replacement company called Safelite. I think they might be nationwide. If not, ask your dealership for a referral.

Make sure that when the new windshield is put in place they seal it properly, and that the finish of the paint on the edge of the windshield roof and pillars is not scratched during the replacement procedure. I had this happen to my previous car, and after about a year the paint started bubbling and rusting around the windshield.

Had my windshield repaired at Safelite. Not perfect, but I can live with it. They used a small drill on the inpact area and filled the area with epoxy. They will stand behind the repair for vehicle inspection, and if it ever cracks, or I am dissatisfied will apply the cost toward a replacement windshield. Better yet, I paid nothing as the cost (amount unknown to me)is passed on to the insurance company. I have a $500.00 deductable, even for glass, and will not be charged. Oh yea, I was quoted for $837.00, to replace the windshield, should it become necessary. The repair is only really noticable if you look for it. Since my 3.2TL is only six months old with 5,500 miles on it, I am not ready for a windshield replacement. I would rather send the $500.00 deductable to Snook for mods!!!!!!!

White Diamond, glad you like Safelite, they are awesome, aren't they?

Most insurance companies nowadays will not charge you to repair windshields rather than replacing them.
