So last Friday I went to get my New York State Inspection done at Jiffy Lube because everywhere else that I usually went to was booked with other stuff...

Anyway I passed the Emissions but fail the safety for tint... And this tint is only on my rear side windows... Last year I had to remove the front tints and it passed inspection.. Now Jiffy Lube telling me the car cant have no tint at all..

I already paid and they told me I have two options: Remove the tint and come back withing 30 days and I could show my paper with the failed safety part and get no charge. or 2. If I bring it elsewhere I could be charged in full to do over a new inspection or maybe I can show the paper from them and only pay 10 bucks.

My question is if on New York DMV website only mentions fronts why am I being told that the rears need to go now even though it passed last year?

I called other places and on sedans & coupes ... As of January 2018 only rear winshield can be tinted in order to pass safety inspection in New York... And if you retint after passing and used a tint shop they'll be coming after the shop owner.

I eventually took everything off and passed... Just gonna buy some sun shades and call it a day.

 

Yet another reason to hate NY. No side window tint at all, seriously?

 

Yup. Only rear windshield can be tinted for sedans or coupes in NY...
