well, when i went to the park ave meet, i was talking to kensteele, the dood hoo came from all the way from kansas, had cl-s (the original key fob looked like ours) and he got the tl-s key fob for his car 35 bucks a peice(and just a lil reprogramming)......
so hoo knows, i have a vibe that it'll work... just ask acura dealerships....

The 2002 TL and TL-S key fob works on the CL and CL-S because the circuitry is the same to support the memory seats and mirrors. Jens has said it -won't- work on earlier TL's. The key fob for the Canadian Acura 1.7EL is a different story though. It doesn't have memory seats so it may work. I guess someone will have to buy one and experiment.

Wayne from Park Ave Acura posted on here a while ago and gave us the sad news that they tried it and it just doesn't work. Normally I'd link the post, but this 56K crap is killing me (cable modem is dead )and I don't feel like doing a search for the topic. Just believe me that there was a post and it will not work.

Yeah, I remember them doing all that, but I thought that they only tried the TL-S/MDX FOB and not the Canadian EL FOB.... I'm hoping they'll see this and clarify.

Wayne or Jens, can you guys possibly post on this? I know you guys looked at the MDX and TL-S remotes, but did you look at the EL remote as well?

The MDX fob won't work because it doesn't have a trunk release button. The rear hatch unlocks with the rest of the doors and there's a plug on the fob where the button for the trunk normally goes.

I was the guinea pig at Park Ave Acura who wanted the new key fob. They tried switching the insides into the new case, and also reprogramming the new key fob. Neither worked. I was disappointed, but I learned how to reprogram remotes which is really cool! G-dforbid any of you ever lose a remote, and need to buy a new one, don't sweat it. It's REAL simple to reprogram!

I asked various Acura dealers, and they all told me that the new 2002 TL remote will not work for earlier model TLs. This is because they changed the remote frequency.

However, I don't know if the Canadian remote might use the same frequency, so there is a possibility of that working, albeit slim.

I'm gonna buy that damned EL FOB and see if I can't get my Python FOB to fit in there. I'm sure its possible with a little soldering... the Python FOB looks like shit.

FYI...I had 2001 RL ( or 2002 model??) as a loaner and the Remote is IDENTICAL to the EL pictured above. The RL Fob had NO memory seat button. That may help you guys...??? You may want to check with your RL's in the US....

Hmmm! I want to do this mod also! Since it appears due to the memory seats..the TL-S FOB will not work..unless you get the seats!!! HAHA! But.....as stated above...The RL seems to be the interesting choice. But how come none of the Acura dealerships thought of that? They shouldv'e known the key fob should look like that..unless it's not for the US. Someone look into it.....!! hehe! I wish I can..but I still haven't picked up my TL! I'm sure by the time I purchase the vehicle, you guys would figure it out already..and I'll have them give me a 02 RL remote and program it! :p :p

hahaha! yeah! but I really want to figure this crap out! For some reason.....this guy with a CL-S was able to program it. Does the CL-S have memory seats? Someone go the dealership and ask to see the alarm to the 02 RL.

I think being it started as an 01 model the CL-s does have mem seats -- I've emailed two random Canadian dealers tonite to see about getting an EL or RL fob -- to try or if compatible -- will keep everyone updated

Cool. But wouldn't shipping cost a little extra to ship those little suckers over? I would go over to the Acura dealer here...but he wants me to buy the gold TL they have...and it's not the the best shape. So I can visit any of the Acura Dealers close by to see if the 02 RL remotes are the new ones....Do the RL's down here in the US have memory seats? I tried looking for another one from Spyhill on eBay..but it appears he only got keychains now.

RL's have memory seats.
Thus far, no one has announced a successful conversion of the new remote to operate '99-'01 TL. Best bet might be to see if you could jam our remote electronics into the casing of a new style remote. From the layout of the buttons, it looks like it might just fit. Be prepared to sand and file though.

I've since given up and tried painting my remote control with chrome spray paint. It looked dope but the paint would just chip off. So I gave that up and got an aftermarket alarm with a new remote.

Thats what 'm thinking, but I'll do it with my aftermarket alarm. And I'm prepared for anything!

There's an eBay auction up now for a tad older RL Fob (looks like our 99-01 one) --- says this in it:
Excellent condition, used, keyless remote for Acura RL. Buyer responsible to verify compatibility with vehicle. (This one does not work with the Acura TL) FCC ID: CWT72147KA $3.25 US Shipping.
So I doubt the newer cool looking ones would either, last chance is the EL
