Who has the most miles on their original tranny?

Hi all,

I'm just wondering who has the most miles on their original tranny? I have a 2000 TL, with 60K, shifts great, but is out of tranny warranty, and I'm just wondering, what is the expected life time on the orignal well cared for car?

why are you out of warranty- just ran out on time limit of 7 years from date of service?

Since you have low miles search and do the 3x3 thats 3 qts trans fluid 3 times in a row

I had 92,696 on mine and just got a new tranny. It didn't die on me but it was starting to slip, so I took it in before I was pissed off stranded on the side of the road in the middle of nowhere.

127,000, but the abs and tcs lights are on have been for a while..heard that was a sign for tranny failure. it feels like it slips ocassionally but in the same place always on this one hill in my neighborhood for a split second, plus the ac is always on when it does it so im not sure if its the tranny.

Plus I drive it normally its my daily, i have a crx that i can go fast in so that helps

I heard they wouldn't replace them unless they actually died?

I think this whole "tranny issue" has been blown out of proportion. It's not as if this problem even affects all '02's and '03's. Rather, if you look at the Honda service bulletin, it only may possibly affect cars within a certain range of VIN numbers. My car pre-dates the possibly affected VIN range.

Well, not according to service bulletin 90-009. I think there is a lot of FUD on this forum that is not substantiated.

From TSB 90-009:

VEHICLES AFFECTED
This service bulletin applies to all Acura vehicles
covered by the New Vehicle Limited Warranty
period (4 years or 50,000 miles, whichever comes
first).
In addition, American Honda has extended the
warranty on A/Ts and torque converters to 7 years or
100,000 miles, whichever comes first, for these
vehicles:
1999–02 3.2TL - All
2003 3.2TL (except Type S):
From VIN 19UUA5...3A000001 thru
19UUA5...3A019556
2003 3.2TL Type S:
From VIN 19UUA5...3A000001 thru
19UUA5...3A019061
2001–02 3.2CL - All
2003 3.2CL (all models):
From VIN 19UYA42..3A000001 thru
19UYA42..3A005203

Basically, it looks to me that all 1999-02 TL's are affected (and mine is and '02 TL-S, so apparently it is affected) BUT only some '03's are affected--ie, only those falling within the specified VIN range.

I also heard a quote that less than 1% of the 1999-2003 TL's have had their transmissions replaced. Like I said before, I guess there's a lot of internet FUD going around.

I recently met azine member Riq who has an 02-P
138k miles and running great- original transmission, fluid replaced at dealer
a few times, shifts great and overall the car had about the same power as my 01 TL-P with 76k miles on it !

Note: get under your car and bang on the rear muffler-
listen for loose parts inside, thats bad
This was something both the dealer and the oil change place had missed, but I know to check on every car.

Care to explain what you mean by this?? If your referring to the select vin range of 03's that arent covered which acura says arent affected, thats a load of crap. Most in that range have had issues as well.

2000 TL, original owner, 60K miles, still working. A little rougher, but no slipping.

My wife's 2001 Ody trans failed twice at 49K miles, check engine light on constantly. Dealer replaced with a factory rebuild which leaked trans fluid and then failed completely in less than 175 miles. 3rd tranny seems to work fine, but less than 1K miles on it.

Yeah, FUD=Fear, Uncertainty, & Doubt. Outside of this forum, I don't know any Acura owners who have had any transmission problems with their 99-'03 TL's (or CL's, etc. for that matter), and you don't see any mention of transmission problems in reports such as Consumer Reports, Kelly Blue Book, Edmunds, etc. The internet seems to magnify the FUD factor. Yeah, some people here have had problems, but its not a truly representative sample of people's experiences with TL's. The people who have had transmission problems are in a small minority, but you'd never know that hanging out here. That's all I'm saying.

99 tl 132k still going, only issues i have is that it lags a little shifting to third sometimes, and from park to R or D, takes 1 sec before it goes into gear. No codes so far.

They dont have issues?? You need to do a little better research. Look at the CR rating for trans once and tell me what it says.

I've done my research. 1-2% failure rate qualifies as "not many people" in my book. Anyway, no need to argue about it. I think most people would agree the TL is great car, even if those people fall into the 1-2% with the tranny problems.

165,000 miles

'99 TL...165,000 miles on original tranny-original owner

It does make an annoying "thunk" when first started in the AM when going into Reverse.

Workaround...with brake on, put into Drive, then Neutral, then Reverse.

My wife noticed some minor abnormalities within the first year or so, and we reported them to the dealer, but no dice when we asked for warranty repair after getting the Acura recall notice...too many miles, etc. if I remember correctly.
