Where to position backup camera?

I've been using one of those backup cameras that attach to the license plate bolts, and it does the trick, but because the 2G's license plate is below the bumper, it loses a lot of functionality because it's very difficult to gauge how far the rear bumper is from the other car/wall/back line of the parking space. With almost all other cars, the rear camera is angled downwards and you can see the rear bumper and how far it is from other objects.

I'm contemplating taking the big leap of drilling a hole high up on the trunk lid and angling the camera downwards, and I swear I read a post from someone a while ago who did this and even posted pics, but searching doesn't turn up anything. I recall that person's rear trunk iced up and so did the camera too, which is a disadvantage I'm willing to live with.

Anyone have any other suggestions or can recall the thread?

It does take some getting used to, but you will get used to it after a while. Please don't put the camera in your trunk lid.
