Where to mount SR1??

I'm a newbie here no doubt. Been enjoying this board (for the most part) for a few weeks now. Have had my TLS for just over a month. Owned a '96 2.5 TL before that so I'm not new to TLs anyways.

I really couldn't find to many pics of installs on radar detectors which surprises me. A few here and there - but mainly just borish discussion of V1 vs. 8500.

Attached, hopefully, is a pic of my Passport SR1 install. Kind of wondered what to do with that space above the radio when I bought the car. I'd be willing to share my thoughts on radar detectors for those interested but for now just a pic or two.

Why is the CD Changer that color? Did you sand it down or something? Or dose it come like that with the CL-type S

I put mine right on the steering column. I wanted it close to eye level when reading gauges and driving. You install looks nice though...I have Navi and didnt have that space available.

Asif2002 - not sure what you mean but I think it's just a result of the flash. I haven't done anything to it.

Indyjenks - I was originally going to put it there for the same reason but didn't look like it was going to sit flat. Plus that slot was being wasted anyways. I've seen a few put equalizers there and stuff but otherwise nothing much.

wiggingboy - yes it's the inside module for the Escort Passport SR1 remote radar detector.

nice install...very clean.....I was wondering if you installed the rear laser detector on top of your license plate frame, or did you find another way to do that?? I have a K40 undetectable.....the remote lights are flush mounted into the top of the steering column....sorry I don't have any pics of it....I am thinking about an SR1 for my new MDX that is coming VERY soon

Very nice install!!!

What are your thoughts on the SR1?

Yeah, the typical V1 vs. 8500 threads are filled with "get the V1 'cause it's the best", instead of discussing strengths and merits of each detector.

swhtech : it's mounted under the rear bumper. I wanted a little more "stealthy" install. I don't have pic but could post if you want. You can only see it if your looking for it.

goaub : So far I like the SR1. Caught a few before they caught me I don't like the windshield models. As for remotes - there are not many to choose from. Couldn't find a dealer for the SRX so went with the SR1. The reviews for detectors seem so subjective that I think almost any decent dectector will do the job. The trick is learning to use the remote and knowing when it will go off. I like the display on the sr1 and the features. I kind of wish that it had a rear radar sensor but then again if a cop catches up to me with radar on then I'm not going fast enough

I agree about the reviews and you're right on regarding learning how to use the remote. That actually applies to any decent detector. You don't need a high-end detector to protect you. High-end models typically give you a few more features, and in some cases a little more range, but the range in the mid-proced models is more than enough if you're careful, and learn how to use the detector.

brian,
if you have a pic of the rear radar module installed, I would be interested to see it....I don't like the idea of attaching it to the license plate, so I would be interested to see how you did it......thanks!
