When the rotor gets stuck...

Looking for some tricks and tips on when the screw to get the rotor off gets stuck. I let the rear pads stay on too long and they wore down to the metal so I had to replace the rear rotors...that was a disaster to get off. WD40, whacking it with a hammer, etc didn't work...had to drill the screws out.

Front pads are shot and are starting to squeal, but I don't need to replace the rotors...just have them turned. Instead of going through the nightmare that I did with the rear ones, is there some sort of a magic way to get them off without destroying (or drilling) the screws?

Taking off rotor screws can be tricky. You just need to get the right sized screwdriver and it'll work fine. Impact screwdriver will definitely work.

Also, once you get the screws toss them. The only reason that the screws are there is to hold them on during production of the car. It's the lugnuts that actually hold the rotor to the car.

Hmmm...

What's the typical price for an impact screwdriver?

As for tossing the screws, will the rotor stay on while I bolt the caliper back on?

check out pep boys they should sell under $15 i bought mines around $12
make sure you have some good hammer to smack that impact screwdriver!

also i dont know why you would toss those 2 screws. they help your rotors in significant ways like centering the rotor for balance, to reduce vibration, may also help from rotors warping out, and im sure there are other reasons.
i really dont think honda put them there to hold up rotors during production. lugnuts

many other car companies dont go into the details that honda does,

Your new rotors should have come with new screws as well. If not go get some.

While there may be a reason for those screws beyond production, I know many other car companies don't use these screws. There are also a lot of Honda/Acura owners who have tossed their stripped screws without any problems.

I just replaced my front stocks for slotted and those screws where a bitch to get out. I broke 2 bits for the impact screwdriver trying to get them out and stipped one of them so bad that I had to drill it out. Never replaced 'cause I would of had to rethread it. No problems so far and only one screw on that one.

Impact screwdriver and dead blow hammer worked well for me. Just remember when you replace them, lots of Anti seize is your friend.

Try hitting the impact screwdriver in the RIGHT or Tighten direction a few hits, then put in remove- left direction and give it a hit
Probably roll right out for you!
This trick works on many things that are too tight!

the front rotors dont need those screws
the REAR rotors REQUIRE the 2 screws- the park brakes are inside the rear rotor - lots of fun to adjust the park brake with new rotors
