No ABS+ hard left+ brick wall = Bad

I don't have pics yet but as soon as I get them I will post them.

So last night I decided to take my buddy for a little spin im my car, taking the normal 1 mile track I do around my friends house. its about a half mile straight then right turn to a quarter mile straight then u-turn then immediate left.

well when entering the immediate left I hit some sand and started sliding, I tried hitting the brakes and it just kept sliding. I didn't have enough time to try anything else. I was up the curb (missed the fire hydrant by 2 feet) and up a 2 foot brick planter wall and almost into a ditch.

I called up my friends and we were able to lift the car off the wall and back into the street.

Both front tires went flat, broke my right front rim, pretty sure one of my brake lines got cut, the whole right front wheel is pushed back into the car, right fender smashed up (mainly from us lifting the car) front bumper is smashed up, and the right side skirt ripped off. im mainly worried about the suspension and possible frame damage, the body shit I can just order myself, but frame damage is a different story.

I have insurance but I just recently lowered to liability to save some money, bad move obviously. so all the fixing is going to be coming out of pocket. I haven't had a good look at the suspension to see what exactly is wrong, but im definitely gona do that today.

if it comes down to it, ill just part out the car, and get rid of it.

the front cross beam is pushed up into the alternator, the lower control arm is bent at almost a 45 degree angle, the knuckle is bent at th top. im gonna price it and if its not worth it the car will be parts.

yeah I just did the swap and just put balck type s interior.

Damn Mike, that fucking sucks. I've had a close call in my car since I did the swap and it made me slow down (especially since I am still paying for the swap every month... it would suck to wreck the car and still have a bank loan to pay off on a car I can't drive). I keep seeing these threads about people JUST finishing up huge projects on their car like you and have something like this happen. I hope it's not too expensive so you can get it fixed and back on the road again.

...and I hate to bring this up already, but if you do end up parting out let me know b/c I am interested in getting a few pieces from you; gauges, shift boot and trim ring, maybe some other stuff. Keep us updated.

HOLY CRAP dude. That really is terrible. It sounds pretty extensive. Buy 2 cars, a beater and find a TL cheap with a blown motor. Swap your setup; then you will certified swap GENIUS! I dunno man, just hate that you have to lose out on that setup. Sorry.

A young'un in home.... or soon???? ......maybe you dont know yet!!!!

If she suggest a Prius......

lol..... she always see shit as a sign. I have two kids already. were both young parents, and I still like to have fun (she does too, but our "funs" are different)

ontop of that last night, we get home and someone stole the stereo out of her car. things just aren't going well.

I don't want to part the car out, I love this car, and we have been through a lot together. blood, sweat and tears of pain and joy have all been with this car. im gonna tow it to my father in laws house, to further asses the situation. if its fixable, id rather do that. perhaps there is chance for an 02-03 front end conversion..... seeing that I have to buy those parts anyway.

That would be cool.

I tell ya, the luck! Stereo gone. Probably the Gremlin that wanted the stereo made you wreck so they could empty the house and get it a bit easier. Maybe you should stay in bed the rest of the day

lol....yeah...... I think I just need to think when I drive. the problem was that I just fixed my tl cause it was having the crank sensor problems again. so I was all excited to go fast again, which lead me to drive stupid. I usually know better, but last night was a different story I guess.

I just don't know how to convince the wife that I should keep the car and fix it. she wants me to part it out, fix her car, and buy a beater so this shit won't happen again.

damn..that sucks man. I see from your avatar your shifter is really short, did you cut it or something?

your conversion is insane so far...to even have a TL-S interior and everything...and now if you do the front and add badges it'll look exactly like a TL-S.

the connectors for the abs module are different from 99 and 03 so I couldn't connect it.

why because the walls jump out in front of you. honestly it was more driver error then vehicle error. yeah maybe abs would have heled, but I shuld have been more careful.

there is absolutely nothing wrong with the swap besides abs, but like I said it really was my fault.

I think if you decide you want to fix it you can do the conversion. I personally like the 99-01 front end better, but Joe's is going to be a Frankenstein to say the least.

im pretty bummed out about it. I just fixed it yesterday and was soooooo happy I was able to go above 2000 rpm...... now its dead.

im getting a beater car in the mean time. 1993 acura integra 5 spd. use to be my brothers then mine then his and soon to be mine again.

im sad

ABS would not have done much on sand- that stuff is so slick there is nothing for the tires to grip and rotate on- may as well have been wet grass!-

It is a good lesson to all - the favorite ~I do this everyday~ place will bite you immedialty after a big mod.
Blackura, after BBK install- not enough brakes yet... car comes around and a backwards launch thru the air into the wall- airbag deployment- scared girlfriend...
as he said- 'at a certain point she realized I wasnt just screwing around and we were in real trouble.'

Just like at the race track, before every session- a car or the field of cars does a slow lap looking for hazards on the surface- ---- you should scout out your track before any demo runs to the public or press~

I am just more worried about somebody else wrecking into me. The other concern is the value of the car vs. how much money I have spent on it, after parting out most of my parts I already realized that I spent entirely too much. I have parted out over $3,000 worth of stuff.

also im gonna base my part out on serious interest only. if I can get someone who seriously wants the 6 speed swap ill part the car out. im looking to get 3500 for the whole swap. and that includes everything you would need for the swap. if you want me to install it for you, it will be 4200.

otherwise ill keep it how it is and eventually fix it. im not in any ind of rush considering I have a beater car to drive.

Sorry to hear that. But if you carry too much speed into a corner, hit a sand patch, and the car starts sliding sideways, no electronic gadget in this world (not even VSA nor ABS) would have saved your car from hitting that wall.

VSA works by sensing if the car is going to understeer or oversteer, and then acts on the brakes and throttle according to prevent such from happening. It only works when the tires still have traction.

But if the car is going a four wheel sideway drift, the tires have lost all traction, and VSA will have no effect until enough speed has been scrubbed off and the tires regain some traction.

Hope this makes you feel better.

well either way, I ruined an awesome ride. everybody who drove it and in it were always amazed at how fast it was. but all good things come to an end.

I don't have the money to fix it right now, especially with our move and fixing my wifes car, I just can't afford it. once I get the car to the in laws house it will sit there for quite some time. either till I sell the parts and scrap it, or if that doesn't happen then until I fix it.

I don't know what kind of car ill get next. honestly, nothing really impresses me like my car did. it was big enough for the family and fast enough for me.

I couldn't see myself doing the swap again on another tl, the price just isn't worth it for a second time around. I wouldn't mind getting a 3g 6speed, or even an 01 S4.

I dunno...... I gotta lot to think about.

Honestly all the stuff you bent can be replaced pretty easy and cheap used. Even if the frame is bent it really shouldnt cost much to have that area pulled. Assess the damage and see what is actually wrong.

Highly doubtful ABS would have helped you out. The ABS could have been hooked up, you just have to repin a few wires. Bummer it happened. Good thing is that your OK!
