wheel bearing

when i drive like my moms 97 avalon. i gas then release and it rolls smooth

but on the TL when i do that. i can feel it so down so much, like drop rapidly in MPH but on the avalon the MPH drops VERY gradually

do i need to do something or is this normal? wheel bearing?

I'm dealing with a bad wheel bearing right now. If there is no abnormal humming then that is not your problem. The TL is actually really good at engine braking in certain gears when on full auto. Are you driving in regular automatic or sport shifting when this happens to you?

It's taking me a while to get used to our new Toyota Sienna. I end up having to break a lot more cause the car doesn't engine break at all.

Isn't that the grade logic kicking in to maximize engine braking? That's what I always thought when my car slows down after letting off the gas, especially on off ramps.

It'd help if you'd quote the message you're replying to.

for going down steeper grades so that you dont have to apply the brake to keep your speed closer to where you were, and to slow down instead of speeding up

Exactly. While traveling here in Colorado through the mountains, my engine actually slows the car down while coasting. While others are braking, I just keep coast without heating up my brakes. Our transmissions have some very nice features when it actually is working properly.
