What's the worst car you've owned?
I thought of this replying to another post.
Mine was a '90 S10 Blazer that had the following go wrong:
Electronic dash replaced THREE times in a year and a half
Ball joints replaced before 20K miles (never was off-road)
Power door lock switch went bad
Windshield wiper switch went bad
4WD switch went bad (embarassing when your 4x4 won't go up your snowy driveway)
faulty water pump replaced at 40K miles
Torsion bar mount went bad
rattles??! TL owners haven't heard rattles like this
puffing blue smoke at start-up (40K miles)
Defective spark plug wires replaced (caused engine vibration @ 55mph)
Traded it in for a '93 Acura Vigor. It was like a breath of fresh air
Runners up:
'79 Mustang 4spd manual (ex-wife brought this into the marriage) - That alone should have been grounds for divorce. The definition of a toilet on wheels. The only reason it didn't win was because it wasn't my daily driver. During the winter, the throttle would frequently get stuck wide open and you'd have to turn it off to keep the engine from launching a piston through the hood. Wheeee!
1976 Fiat 128 My first car and I was fixing it more than I was driving it. It was killed by a Delta 88 and everyone was wondering why I was so happy at the accident scene.

87 Escort GT, POS edition. I bought it used in 1992 (it was my first car) and that may have been part of the problem.
Replaced
Brakes, Rotors
AC compressor
water pump
Alternator (x2)
Clutch (OK, a little bit my fault
)
power steering pump
Moonroof leaked like a siv
Lastly, the timing belt - at that point we had to take it in, and left it!

1980 Chevy Monte Carlo 2 dr.
I owned it for 18 months and paid more in repairs than I did for the car. It did more vertical miles than horizontal. Replaced it with a 1988 CRX Si (Yellow) that I drove for 9 years trouble-free and sold through the Internet to someone 400 miles away for 42% of my original purchase price.
To quote my wife "We'll always own a Honda".

'96 Dodge Stratus
In its first and only year of driving:
Cracked crossover pipe (took months for dealer to find/cure)
A/C died
Rack and pinion died
Power steering pump died
Water pump died
Fuel pump died
Warped rotors (twice)
Many unresolved rattles
CD changer, designed to be installed in the dash, installed in the trunk (dealer very stupid)
Side mirror shattered (side mirror heater *always* on, unlike TLS)
Took a $4,000 loss to get rid of that car. Traded for a Grand Prix on which i eventually put 210,000 miles over 4.5 years and that only gave me trouble near the end of its life.

1977 Buick Regal and the damn car nearly killed me and most of my family!
It was brown, tan top, spokes, etc.
Well heres what happened. My dad was driving it on the expressway and i was in the passenger seat when we came upon a big dip in the road. well this big boat went up in the air and when it came down it bottomed out and the rear tire hit the top of the wheelwell (and you guys talk about rubbin') and snapped the lugs right off. The wheel went flyin one way and the car went the other way and we almost flipped over. If i had been driving we would have flipped b/c i could never have controlled the car like my dad did. well anyway thats my story.

You guys don't know what "bad" is. Without a doubt the worst I ever owned was a Chevrolet Vega station wagon. It gave a special meaning to the word "SUX". It was a 1979 model. The carborator float valve was made of a sort of styrofoam which absorbed gasoline and didn't float. So the car was constantly in a flooded out condition. Really great for fast winter starts.
Electronic package consisted of a five button push button radio. Man this thing was loaded.

Worst car and best car at the same time:
1975 Plymouth Fury
Worst car because it was the biggest POS on wheels--I had to replace every part known to man on the car. But damn did I learn how to work on cars. Had the signal repeaters on the tops of the fenders so you could see when you left one on. The left one would glow for no reason when you stepped on it--had people convinced it had a turbo and that was the light indicating it was working!
Best car because the back seat was huge and I got more action in that car than any other to date. Damn--those were the days!!

1990 Taurus GL wagon. Well technically is not my car.
but by far the worst car ever owned in my family.
my 1994 accord ex was bad.
2 A/C compressor
ABS module
All failed right after the 36K warranty.
This accord was from hell. It's actually worse than my 1st car a 1985 escort.

1984 Fiero. First year of production. One of the many recalls had something to do with the engine catching on fire. The fuel tank pipe was directly over the exhaust manifold. The recall involved putting a heat shield around the filler pipe, and a metal warning sticker for the dash!!

Without a doubt, my 1995 Ford Contour SE. Totally loaded (sticker approx $22,000) purchased with 4,000 miles for $16,000. I thought I got a great deal. Until the dashboard lights went out... It went downhill from there: Suspension problem, recall, engine problem, suspension problem, another suspension problem, new "100,000 mile" sparkplugs after 35,000 miles, another suspension problem, another suspension problem...
This car actually reduced my wife (not exactly an emotionally weak person) to tears. Twice.![Frown](https://acurazine.com/forums/images/smilies/frown.gif)
The final blow was when, having just replaced the brakes, we were told that the engine mount had cracked. And a strut brace... I got a call from my wife at work, "We're selling this car!" Two weeks later, we were back with Acura.

The worst car I ever owned was a 1973 Ford Torino coupe. The car looked good but it completly rusted through. The car was biodegradable it rusted from top to bottom. The exhaust system fell out in the street and would not start in damp weather. The ball joints needed replaced at 30K. When I sold the car it had only 42K miles on it. What an awful car!!!!

The worse car i ever owned was my 98.5 contour SVT. My God this thing was just bad. I went back for break problems a total of 37 times in 2 years. My dash lights went out, my ac stopped working, my alternatorm went at 12000 miles. The car was so horrible. After two years of having the car i only put 18000 miles on it, that's because the damn thing spent probably 6 months all together with all my visits in the damn shop. I will never by and american car ever again. The only things i would buy would be a sports car like an f-body, a mustang or a vette or viper, thats it. And i would only buy one if i had a german or japanese car sitting in my driveway. I swear american cars use to be it, but now they are just crap. Maybe one day things will turn around and we can shop freely among domestic and foreign and not have to worry about quality issues, but until then i will enjoy everything but american.

We've owned only Honda/Nissan Products since, and I can count the number of problems we've had on one hand. Our Accord, Altima and TLS were all built in the U.S., so it's not "american built" cars that are the problem.

The worst car I owned was a 1989 Mercury Sable. The car came equiped with JBL speakers, according to the window sticker, but were never installed. The electronic dash board kept going out and the odometer never had the correct mileage. I couldn't trade the car in. Nobody wanted it. Went through arbritation on this car and Ford said that the car was ok. Came home and a couple of hours later the dealer called and said that we have good news and bad news. The good news was they thought they fixed the electrical problem, and bad news the car caught fire and was a totaled along two other cars parked next to it. I told them so what is the bad news.
The second worst car I owned was a 1999 Chrysler Sebring LXi (these are made by Mitsubishi) piece of junk from day one. I know something was wrong when I drove the car off the lot, after I bought it and the brakes failed. Needless to say Chrysler bought the car back under the Lemon Law.
I have owned Acura since and have been very happy.

Bought it from Auction as a beater...interior looked new, so is engine itself(and most of the mechanical parts)... but...
1. No catalyst
2. No Stereo
3. Eletronic Problems.... taillights won't work... 3/4 lights have cracked lenses.
4. $hitty paint. The car looked like it was set on fire...
5. Clutch itself is good, but the clutch feel is BAD...
6. Damned 1st and 2nd gear synchro.....

Hate to diss Honda but I bought a Civic EX new in 90.. It was a pretty car, dark maroon. I was in college at the time and couldn't afford an Accord Ex. This car had the worst seats of any car I've owned. I drove the car like it was a performance car and it couldn't take it. The timing belt broke between 45-50k miles. I had to replace an igniter. It was an automatic, think I would have enjoyed it more if it were 5 speed. Kids on skate boards had better take off than I did.
