What's a higher class CLK or the E class?
2002 TL vs. 2002 CL?
One is coupe, one is sedan. Its hard to say. Which is a higher class 330Ci or 330i?
Depends on your style. I think TL looks more luxerious, however CL is more sporty.

its like apples and oranges...they're both different. CL is nice if you want a hybrid of a sporty and luxurious car. TL is all luxury with a little VTEC kick under the hood to top it off...

I think of the TL (4 Dr) as luxury & CL (coupe) as the sport model. THey are equally equipped so go with your gut...

2000 TL - Laguna Green, Navi, Rear Spoiler. PIAA Hyperwhite HB's. 17" CL-S wheels with Bridgestone RE 730 - 225/45/17's. Soon to have Comptech Suspension, Sways & Axle back Exhaust.

The TL is definitely in a higher class because it is a sedan.

Not to bust your chops, but the CLK is based on the C-class which is decidedly downscale compared to the E-class. They share the same look in the front which makes them look like brethren, but the underpinnings of the CLK are not as sophisticated as the E. Kinda hard to believe how much they charge for the CLK now, huh? Imagine if a 330ci cost $10K more than a 330i...

A more apt comparison might be the S-class sedans vs. the big coupes such as the Lorinser pictured above.

CLK's have a "C" in their designator, but they're based on the E-Class sedans. Look at the front of the two side by side. They're identical. And they're available with the same engines as the E-Class sedans.

RAdams, Gomez is right. THe CLK is based on the previous generation C class, !NOT! the E class. I posted some quotes, with links to the full story, to show this.

"All versions of the CLK, however, are still based on the old C-class platform rather than the one used for the new C-class sedan. That means that the CLK's steering column lacks the tilt adjustment of the newer platform, which it needs to lower the rather high-positioned steering wheel."
http://www.caranddriver.com/xp/Caran...55.xml?&page=2

"Although based on the C-class, Mercedes prefers to think of the two CLKs as stand-alone models, rather like Volvos C7Os (see C70 convertible road test in this issue), their obvious rivals. Both the CLK and the C70 vie for the title of worlds safest convertible."
http://www.caranddriver.com/xp/Caran...ocabriolet.xml

"The bottom-of-the-line C-class sedan may seem an unpromising beginning for a 40-grand coupe, but Mercedes made good on its mission. This is an urgently fast four-seater with buttoned-down, unflappable poise on any kind of road."
http://www.caranddriver.com/xp/Caran...an.xml?&page=4

I hope this will satisfy any doubters out there. The CLK is based on the old C-class platform with an E class fascia.

David

The CL just recently caught up with the TL in features and being brethren.

Before 2000, they didn't even look close or even have the same features. Price difference was huge. The success of the TL and the 99 redesign spawned the birth of a two door version, now the CL.

Plus I don't own a CL so obviously MY car is higher class.

Ask any one who rolls in to a CL meet with a line of TL's and they know who's jaw is dropping.

Hmmm...Been there...done that.

That was a pisser when we all pulled into the parking lot. Those CL owners couldn't stop wiping the drool off their chins.

TL is higher class, and i thought it was more expensive too?? CL has a lot of nice attributes to it. Gen 2 CL that is... Gen 1 was one of the ugliest car ever built. No offense to anyone.
